Hi Guys and Gals,
Been lurking here for the last few weeks and am very impressed with the helpfulness of members, quality of posts, and general amounts of knowledge stored. So I'm glad I joined up.
I'm looking at buying a manual GPX from a dealer in Sydney and having it shipped up to me in Rockhampton, Queensland. The car has just been into N.G. Jap Spares for an inspection (found them in the NSW section, great help that) and they said the car was in good condition, but the clutch would need replacing in a year or so (depending on how I drive it).
So I'm wondering how difficult is it going to be to replace the clutch (Manual GPX with no modifications that I can tell of) and what roughly would I be looking at price wise for the parts and for the labour (if I choose not to do it myself)?

Replacing a clutch?

Previous owner changed the clutch on my fto gpx before i bought it and told me it cost him around $800 for a Exeedy Heavy Duty Clutch including labour costs. you can save about 400-500 if you diy it but you'll need a hoist and the right tools.

WTTC Eltnot.
Great to see some more regional QLD members. I moved down here from Rocky 3 years ago. Picked my FTO up from Sydney and drove it home nearly 4 years ago. Taught me a lot about the car and was great fun. Might be worth considering if you can get the time off work and trust the car. I would have no reason to doubt it if you have had it checked out by someone the NSW section reccomends.
I'll be looking to do my clutch shortly as well. If your looking for an upgrade the Exedy Sports Tuff Organic seems to be the way to go. Do a search on the forums if you want more specifics.
Not sure if you've been living in Rocky long and have experience with cars up there. Can't go far enough to say go to Omara's for any suspension or CV work. Mechanics are more a personal preference though. Find one you trust and like.
Oh and if your lookng for some free accomodation if you decide to drive it home I'd be happy to put you up for the night on your way back.
I'm sure you'll love it when you get it. When I was last up there there were a few still around I saw. Come to think of it I'm heading up in early January. Send me a PM if you want to catch up.

Thanks for the replies guys, imaginary cookies to you all.
I'm getting it shipped because the time off work would be hard to get, and I'd only be saving myself about $300 by the time that I paid for flights, a night's accommodation in Sydney and fuel for the way back. Plus it means I won't have to stress too much.
I'm contemplating heading down to Brisbane though for New Years and a few days before hand, which should give the car a good run to get a feel for it and find any other faults that might have been missed. Also give me a few days to go and change the oil etc.
Rally Mad - Would be good to catch up with whilst you're in Rocky, hopefully pick up a few extra pointers. Maybe have a mini cruise.

I can understand that mate. The only reason I drove mine was cause I was at uni and could take the time off.
You might find it hard to get any work done during the xmas and new year though mate. If your just looking to do a oil change I'd do it yourself. I't really simple as long as you have a jack and a oil drain tray.
Shoot me a PM if you want mate and we can get something sorted. I'm always willing to hand out what help I can, and mini meets are a pretty regular occurance wherever I have lived.
