Thinking of turboing. But need an estimate on prices!

Post by xSlurpee »

Alright ... even though i can easily get something like a 180sx or mr2. I would love a turbo'd fto to shut up some people who give me sh*ts about a girly slower version supra and rich kids who drives like dc2r / evos.

My mum is able to get a 10k credit card for me.

soo im looking at either a turbo for the fto (what i want) or some house renovations (me mummy wants)
Anyways i just need to know roughtly how much i would be looking at for a turbo (parts i need to source and labour as well) ... ill be letting the mechanic deal with all of the labour.
its only something that came into mind, but it could become reality *hopes*

Soo, what do you guys recommend with about a 8-10k budget that can give my car the best performance?

(this is serious question, my mum wants to buy new bed / tables / cupboards / tvs and put in aircond for the house, but i can convince her to let me use the money elsewhere)

it is a fairly large job buddy. i would recommend 6a13tt as you have a mivec
i can get a half cut for 2350 if they still have it plus postage.
new manifold 500
manual conversion 1k
labour properly 4 or 5k man

or you can just ring ben and ask if he will help you for a few cartons of beer, you will also learn a lot by doing this yourself

Easier just to sell the FTO and buy an evo.

Seriously though, don't think it's a good idea to use credit.

+1 on the evo and credit front. Do you understand how much interest you would be paying if you used the full credit limit on a 10k card? If your looking at this sort of thing you'll be wanting a personal loan or you'll be paying off the credit card for half your life.

Thats not taking into consideration what pete_gpx has posted up either.

My top tip to handle rich kids with dc2r's or evo's...........ignore them, they probably can't drive anyway ;)

Keeping in mind the fact that he could not legally drive the car if he decided to do that kind of work to it.

thanks guys, it was just something i had in mind ... the credit card my mum got offered had no interest for 12months ... soo i could work my ass off and pay off abit over half.
and onto the restriction of turbod vehicles ... my friend got his way around the turbo on his impreza, he had a word with RTA with his dad about that being the one car the family uses and he was let off ... weird
Well looks like i dont got enough to go hair dryer  ...
nos eh ... this should be interesting. *gonna research about it later tonight*

f**k em all. Put it all on the card. and who cares about the restrictions, it only becomes a problem when they catch you and with your new turbo setup you will be able to out run the police......sh*t if a standard gpx can beat a godzilla skyline then a turbo one would be the FASTEST IN THE WORLD.....

Right you can all now tell what type of mood im in...... its friday and i am bored. Just wanna go home. Hello....Helllo, is there any body listening....

What?......Why? oh ok i can come play......Hold on! Where are you? I can here your voice but i cant see you! NO, NO NOOOooooOOOOoOOOoOOOOoOOOo

Hahahahahaha yes!!

And just think, the bigger the turbo, the better the mileage you'll get per tank! Not only that, you'll increase your engine life by up to 300%!!! Oh and when you walk into Repco, you'll actually be able to browse the fully hektik Blow-Off valve isle, knowing you can actually buy the loudest one they have - and be able to use it 8)

Exemptions are provided if you can prove you owned the turboed vehicle prior to the laws being put in place, if the vehicle is used for work, or if it is the only vehicle at your disposal to drive.

You have 0% chance of getting one of these exemptions. There response to your application will read something like this; 'Well, you had a perfectly legal vehicle... Then you spent 10 grand worth of money you don't have to put a turbo on it, therefore forcing you to apply for this exemption. Denied.'

Sorry if I'm coming off a bit harsh, but honestly this is one of the most stupid opening posts I've ever read on this forum.

On another note, as far as the laws read, the only modifications that are illegal, as far as natural aspiration goes, are changes that require a mod plate. This gives you plenty of breathing room for power increases through such things as intake, exhaust, cams, piggy back ecu etc.

Taking into account the fact you have a GPvR (and reading all the problems people have with attempting to turbo their MIVEC engines), if you're desperate to spend the money and won't be talked out of it, this is definitely your best approach.

but dont do it....

I dont care about the restrictions etc, just of u cant afford it upfront then dont do it peroid. 10k turns into 20k pretty easily.

Hahaha, this is one funny ass thread. Doing major engine work on a credit card is almost the dumbest thing I've heard unless the work is necessary...your mum will thank us for our advice (and hopefully she gets to thank us in person if you know what I mean ;) )

Oh and Simon, lol, man wtf were you smoking at work?? HAHHAHAHA, your post was some wacked out funny sh*t there...
