OK so i'm so getting the other half a coffee machine for xmas because for some reason she is facinated at making it but not really a drinker, however i love it so its a win/win for me
the prob is I have no idea about making it or anything about the machines, so if anyone out there has some advise on which machine is good and reasonable price $300ish (dont wanna blow the budget as getting FTO here much more important) too would be appreciated
yeah i know its random question, but i really hate going to shops and asking some idiot who prob has no better idea than myself about them
Coming from this industry I would recommenced looking at this website http://coffeesnobs.com.au/
They go over a lot of machines there and the forum will be able to help make your choices easier.
Just remember that when shopping for coffee machines, a great coffee grinder will bring the best out of the coffee.

The 2 biggest things that sh*t me off when gettin a coffee from a coffee shop
1) They ask if you want sugar.... you say yes , they put it in but DONT F&*KEN STIR IT and its take away.
This sh*ts me the most
2) Ask for a flat white and thing has more froth on it than a lubed up %^&* on a
%^&*($# %^&**@ girl
CHRISTIANITY: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

I just bought a (manual) Giotto Rocket expresso for $2500 & i've got to say its not that much better then my old $600 Delonghi (manual) which wasn't that much better then my older $300 sunbeam (manual) so I've just learnt the principal of deminishing returns (the hard way) and imo with expreesso machines $300 is the best bang for buck. A good option is by a refurbished machine from a authorised service agent. They usually come with a 12 month warrenty and sell for half their retail price.
my new machine

Step 1. Buy a kettle
Step 2. Buy instant coffe
Step 3. Combine together
In a few weeks time you will notice that it will never be used again. Things like this are just fun for a few weeks then you just get over it and start making coffee however you do now.

+1 to that.. but more so its IMPORTANT to match the grind of the coffee to your machine because there is a 27 to 30 second window to extract all the oils from the beans before they burn. You should end up with 1/3 of a cup of black coffee topped with a nice golden brown crema (thats the oils.. where all the caffine is). The problem with pre ground coffee is its always too coarse.. even the fine grind. If your grind is too coarse you end up with 1/2 a cup of watery crap and little to no crema.
I was really suprised at how much my coffee improved when I got one.. it really makes owning a home expresso machine worth it.. you will NEVER consider drinking instant coffee again.. trust me.
I used to walk past a coffee shop in the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney that had a machine with a Ferrari emblem on it. Looked like a winner to me, but what do I know, don't drink the stuff.
$700 worth of delonghi here. (at 15 i'm a friggin coffee freak ) and it does the job pretty well.
bloody loud though..especially on the weekends when i'm trying to sleep in and the parents decide to make some.
I'd rather spend my hard earned dough on my fto than drink coffee from a machine worth more than my car. But thats just me....for $2500 that coffee machine has got to do all the housework and wash my car every day and blow me for it to be remotely worth the investment...buy a jar of nescafe and a frickken kettle for goodness sake and make coffee the old fashion way. just my 2cents.
I bought a couple of years ago, gaggia are an good make. If you can afford it go for a bean to cup machine. You put to your breans in the top, water in the side and it does it all for you. I know a few people who have the manual ones where you put the ground coffee into the little handle type thing and attach it...and the have all got bored of doing it after 6-12 months and they dont get used. Mine still chugs along doing everything for me making 3-4 cups a day every day.

Ive been a barista for two and a half years and the sh*tty home coffee machines all suck ass... Getting the grind right isn't a once off either as it will need tweaking every time u use it as there are lots of variables that change it even though u physically dont...
I change the grind at least three times a day at work...
its not as easy as you think..
