Whys my GPvR SOOO SLOW!?

Post by xSlurpee »

i dont know if its me or my car deteriorating.

But my car feels slower recently. And also after a little drive then engine makes squeeks and crackles and poping noises (crackles more louder and quicker if i was driving it a bit hard)

what do you guys reckon?

BP E10! yes!

did you hit mivec? if not, FTO is just as fast as any other lancer or corolla.

But i do feel it getting sluggish on my ex teg when i upgraded to better sparkies, leads, grounding kit and engine oil. Shouldn't be that case but it happens.
Problems arise on old cars anytime and its not going to stop, so dont think it will be invincible after the major service. 8)

Did you get the fat red leads? If not I reckon that would have been the issue. Blue ones are crap imo.

My GPX makes sharp cracking and popping noises as well. Seems to come from underneath the rocker cover. It's becoming more frequent these days... Freaking me out a little.

FTO are those kind of cars that need to be hard on the pedal to get any decent speed. Ofcos, drivers dont do that all the time. thats why it named as a hairdresser's car as it does not go as fast as it looks.
Personally, i think the freeway is FTO's territory.

agree i think the pickup from the 80km + is pretty good but i think it really owns the hills or twisting roads

only under controlled conditions of course

Mountain runs and tight courses are the FTO's territory if you ask me.. It's a car that begs for me, fun and rewarding to drive on the edge and scares a lot of other stuff if you push hard enough

yeh....your not gonna allow it to reach its full potential in the suburbs, its best driven on stretchy and winding mountain roads.

just keep down changing till you get the power band. Especially if it's a tip. The thing a absolutely love about FTO's is it's like a excel when you want it to be or a scream when you want it to be that as well, just got to get it up into the power band. I admit that if you want a fast car all the time this sort of sucks but for me I don't want to go 0-100 in 7secs all the time. just most the time

Can you even get that for less than $50,000 or $100,000 now days?

Or would you be happy with some laggy skyline, supra, or something that would be beaten by an FTO up to about 3rd when the turbo actually started getting some power down?

The fto is perfect for the purpose it was made for track, mountain runs, technical courses with its small nible chassis & high revving variable valve timed engine making it a serious contender.

If your after acceleration save up $40 000 and buy an evo 9 fq400 does 0 - 100km in under 5 seconds.

Just be happy with the fto for what it is. :D
