not revving over 2k
so yesterday i drove home from my shack 60km away with no problems on a 30 degree day..
anyways almost home and pulled up behind this car (at the traffic lights)
when i went to accelerate my car was very reluctant to go over 2000rpm
it was slow as a slug... if it did go over 2000rpm max i got to was 2500 it sounded very strange and was going like a putt putt putt sound (only when over 2000rpm)... it struggled to get up hills as well...
the gear box was fine and in working order no warning lights came up either.
i pulled over to have a look and couldnt see anything so i slowly made my way to my mechanic once i got there i turned the engine off told them about it then drove into the garage still being a slug... it was sitting there idling for a bit while he was checking out the engine bay then he told me to rev it and it was fine again!!!
he even took it for a spin and everything was back to normal!
it was strange cos the leads and plugs were all changed on thursday so why would've it been such a slug and then go back to normal????

Try resetting the ecu? Might work. My car also feels pretty laggy on really hot days...some pple say tat my air intake is taking hot air and shoulf get a intake box. While some of my frens suggested unplugging the car batt for half an hour to reset the ecu to see how it goes. THe funny thing on hot days is tat when i step on the accelerator, it feels kinda laggy. Then suddenly, the car feels lighter and surges forward with a slight sudden power and then feels sluggish again. All this was done without me pressing the accelerator further down. Anyone feels the same thing

I'm actually having that problem at the moment, although only when the engine is fairly cold. It feels like the car surges forwards, then drops back, then surges again. The problem is not noticeable after driving for 5 or so minutes to warm it up. I'm thinking this problem is caused by a defective O2 sensor.nikhan wrote:Try resetting the ecu? Might work. Pete, i would think it you are along the right path with your porblem, maybe theres a short in the heater wires. O2 sensors on FTO's have heater wires to heat the o2 sensor up quickly, as they dont function properly when cold. Maybe it aint gettin any power to the heater.pete_gpx wrote:I'm actually having that problem at the moment, although only when the engine is fairly cold. Valandis do have a manual or gpx?
Also DONT reset the ecu without checking the error codes first.
With the limit info you have provided, i would be guessing (provided you have a auto box) that your auto oil temp was too high.

it can do just maybe sluggish between changes, however if this has not been changed for ages than you prob wouldnt have noticed the gradual slower changes over time.Valandis91 wrote:Yeah its a tip gpx...
My thought was the tip oil being to hot as well...
It was meant to be done on Thursday but they didn't do it...
would it still change gears and all that fine if it was to hot though?

Yeah its a tip gpx...
yeah mate, i bet my left testie its over temp of the oil then.
Chenage the oil and filter and she should be sweet.
I also highly recommend (TO ALL TIP DRIVERS) getting a tranny oil cooler. It will give better life to your oil and gearbox. Heat is the biggest killer of auto gearboxes.
Hope that helps.

Sounds like a flooding issue. I'm guessing the more you step on the accelerator the slower you will actually go. Only happens when it's super hot. It's one of the FTO sensors that goes a bit awry when hot. I never got around to figuring out which one it was though. But at a guess probably the O2 sensor as car thinks there's more oxygen available hence adding more fuel to the flooding.
All you need to do is turn your engine off for a couple of mins then restart and you're off again. I know it sounds stupid to suggest not running the aircon when it's a hot day but when I used to get it the aircon used to aggravate it a lot more.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression.
