help with air con.

Post by howc »

There is this clicking sound coming from the air con. It only happens when the air con circulate the air in the car and it stops after i press it. Just to make sure i am right, i think one of the servo motor need a change?
and the air con dont turn on at times when i start the vehicle. i've noticed that it turns on when the surrounding temperature is cooling and wont turn on when its getting hot. When the air con refused to turn on, i just rev to like 5k+ and the air con turns on!

there is a problem with my cooling system also, the mechanic say my radiator is leaking and all the hoses need a change as they are hard and crunchy now. i only noticed a minor leakage at the top of the radiator so should i change it ? how much for a second hand ? and how many hoses are there? i've only seen 2 , the top and bottom.

Please Advise . Thank you!

New one will cost quite a bit (I think adi_adis was around $700 from what he was saying). I think I have a second hand one lying around here somewhere. Ill have a look today.

    Thank for the help!

ok. i've driven it for the past 2 days. i've noticed no leak at the radiator. According to the mechanic, he said the radiator leak when they did some pressure test. So i assume it only leaks when engine is running at high RPM. As for the hose, SuperCheap autos sells them but i cant find the matching part number. anyone know where to get it instead?

anyone know what is happening to my air con? it's really weird! i think the air con really hate hot weather cos it wont work when the weather gets too hot!

    please advise. Thanks!

Yeah it could be something to do with the little cogs miss aligning and clicking together.

Read through these and see if they help

ok. i've solved the clicking sound. the gear lost a tooth and it just keep spinning. re-adjust it and everything is fine now!

i got some qns though. i'm intending to change my transmission oil. changing to a red line manual transmission oil MT-90. It's 75w90 so it shouldn't be a problem right?

i've search the forum for the location of the manual transmission drain plug but i cant find it and i cant really see the location in the "workshop manual". So can anyone guide me to the drain plug and the filling plug?

I've read somewhere that ryco oil filter Z411 is not that good? any other alternatives? and where do i get the sump drain plug gasket?

    Please advise. Thank!

I have the clicking problem too! how you solve it??? please help!

75W-90 works excellent! redline...great choice! get cooper oil filter with part no: Z411 also.

you can get the drain plug washer from any auto outlets like autobarn, repco, etc. or you can try www.fumoto.com.au. I dont know how many people here actually uses it, but i am and it works great.

So please let me know step by step on how you solve the clicking sound. thanks a lot!

ok..i managed to solve it with the help of I8A4RE! kudos to him!

    ermm, i'll explain it.

When i change the setting of the air con to circulate the air in the cabin, there will be this clicking sound. If u have the same problem as me then continue reading.

To fix it, open the dash compartment or glove compartment or whatever u call it. There is 2 stud at the side that prevent it from opening fully. Use some strength and depress the side of the compartment and it will open fully.

now u'll be able to see the motor that making the noise. It's a 10 cm by 8 cm size black motor casing. (rough estimation) You will need to unscrew 4 screw to remove the whole motor case out. 3 at the case and 1 at the moving arm. There is also a supply power plug. remove the brown clip first then remove the plug. you will need to depress a latch to unplug it.

now u need to remove the case. There is 5 clips i think. unclip them and use something sharp to pry open it. BECAREFUL OF THE CLIP! VERY BRITTLE! i broke 2 while taking it off... :(

after opening it, there shld be some tooth missing from the gears. re-adjust the gear in a way that those missing tooth wont be in the path of rotating. plug the power cable in again. Dont need to put back the cover when testing it. Test for clicking sound, if there is then try to adjust again. if not then just assemble it back and enjoy your new quiet ride.

Required tools: '+' screwdriver. ( choose short and slim screw driver, better accessibility)
a plier, to pluck out the worm gear.
    grease if needed.

Haha mate i am being polite, i dont know what part you thought was rude? I didnt mean to offend you but you shouldnt be sensitive. These forum based conversations are hard to interprut at times becasue there is no facial expressions or tones. But i assure you, there was no malice in my comments.....

    look at what vipfto said.

you only wrote 3 sentences in reply to me, so im sure you can figure out which part i thought u were rude. there are loads of emoticons for you to use and they are there to express you expressions. so feel free to use it.
Its hard to interpret if you show no emoticons, you get what i mean? I guess i must have intepret the other way then.
vipfto did use emoticons so its natural to know that shes just mocking around.
But now you make it clear, no worries! 8)

Got a new problem... sent my car for re-gas and mechanic found a leak in the pipe (marked at the RHS picture). Can i just get some sealant to seal it ? or anyone knows where to buy 1 ?

are this the drain plug and filling plug of the manual transmission shown at the LHS picture?

    Please advise. Thanks!
