misfiring, unwilling to rev and total lack of power
Hi all,
Wanted to share my recent problem on my "old faithful" just in case it happens to your car.
I was driving down paramatta road 2 weeks ago when out of the blue, i started to hear massive misfiring and i started to lose my revs and power. the weirdest part is that the more i applied the throttle, the worst it became. eventually, i was going at a max speed of 20km/h and was starting to cause a traffic jam so i pulled over at a gas station and turn my engine off.
just before i turned it off, i had a quick check on the engine. no overheating (despite a 40 degree temp that day) no steam coming out, nothing at all to indicate any trouble. my exhaust was ok. so after resting for 10mins, i turned it on and everything was fine... i decided to drive it to my mechanic. after 10 more mins of driving... the same thing happened. it din matter which gear i was in, i could only gently throttle it.
several days at the mechanic later... he said "its probably your spark plugs and leads that are failing" he doesnt know why its happening, maybe because my car's a 95 model and these have not been changed since new??? i dunno... ever since then, "old faithful" has been a wonder to drive, the revs build smoothly, there is slightly more power and there isnt any more misfiring... one thing i done quite understand is this, why does my clutch feel so weird? i can apply less throttle and when the clutch is more engaged, the tyres spin a little. maybe the engine is more responsive...
sorry about the long winded post. i'm not too good with explaining this. at least my "old faithful" is driving beautifully now.

It's not so extreme for me but lately, the car misfires slightly and when i accelerate there's tiny jerks and I can hear the exhaust misfiring
is this def spark plugs? I've had a spare set for ages but never changed them.. think it's about time I did

Misfiring is generally a problem caused by sparked. So plugs and leads are usually the most common culprit and the first place id start
CHRISTIANITY: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

i really cant believe it! my fto's a totally different car now. no more misfire, no more hesitation when i accelerate hard (before mivec range), its unreal, very very smooth... i cant believe i drove my fto a whole year not realising the spark plugs and leads were at the end of their life!!! argh!!!
i'm rediscovering the joys of driving the fto again!
