Storing car

Post by Rj-Fto »

I will be going on a overseas trip for 7 weeks . Wondering what I need to do, to store my FTO in good condition? It will be stored in undercover car park and will not be started/driven for the 7 weeks, I am out.

I read at a few forums..websites..

- Fill all fluids/oil in the car

- Fill fuel tank

- Unhook battery

- Jack up the car / Over inflate the tyres / Park it on plastic sheet to avoid vapour/moisture to get in

- Blah blah

Seems like a lot of work...

Unhooking your battery is the main concern.. I wouldn't be topping up on the fuel though, cos after sitting there for 7weeks it'll be a little bit dirty. 7 weeks isn't that long, so maybe just cover it up with a tarp and d/c the battery and should be sweet.

^^^^^^^ agreed. 7 weeks is not long at all. Definitly disconnect the battery though

Yeah disconnet the battery and maybe a cheap car cover from supercheap may be worth it, just make sure it's made of a soft material, the car is clean before putting it on and no nasty buggles etc are attached to it, but for 7 weeks I'm not sure if this is worth it.

Definately don't fill up the fuel either, the shelf life of most high octane fuels aren't really great from al reports, better to fill it up when you get back, a miracle may happen and fuel may be cheaper by then anyway

Have a great time away mate.

+1 to simons post count (Shameless spammer!)

lol

on topic:
If you're worried about moisture, whack in some moisture packs (ment to go in wardrobes).

other than that 7 weeks is nothing...

I went to the army for 5 months and didnt do a thing... left battery connected etc...

started first go..

dont leave the fuel tank next to empty cos you will lose some fuel due to evaporation, but dont leave heaps of fuel in there if you can, as rallymad said about the shelf life thing. if you are worried about the fuel going bad then you can buy an addictive thing that will keep the fuel fresh, i know you can get it from good lawn mower shops (but i assume you can probably get it from places like supercheap and stuff)

dont leave any air fresheners in the car!!

and i'm going to tell you not to disconnect the battery, not for any reason but to go against the trend lol
