Lighter socket not working - need help!

Post by wjeffsy »

Hi Guys,

I'm not a smoker so I haven't noticed this when I bought the car. I just bought a navigator and found out that the lighter outlet/plug seems to have no electricity and does not work. Anyone experienced this? Does anyone know how to fix this? Does this have a fuse?

Thanks!

Yes there is a fuse (one of the ones in the drivers side footwell). Failing that, the wire may have been disconnected from the back of the unit. Youd have to take out the stereo surround to check

I found the fuse box and the fuse is ok. I will try to remove the stereo surround to check the wire. How do I remove the thing? Thanks again.

it's just clipped in mate. Take off anything in the way first ie gear knob or stereo fascia.

Then just gently pull up, I've found starting around the gear knob surround is best,

**WARNING** Be as gentle as possible, they crack very easily. There should be 3 connectors on the back of the lighter.

    Hope this helps mate.

have you heard of the "SPACE BAR"

Yeah ok, 2 connectors and a light. Agreed, I was just counting the light as a connector, the light twists out if this is confusing you wjeffsy. The connectors have the little tabs you have to depress to disconnect them and as VIPFTO said they are brittle.
Thanks for that correction mate :D

Forgot with the stereo surround you need to remove the ash tray as well just open it and pull out gently, it just clips in. I find you can swing the stereo surround toward the passenger seat to get a good view of the back of the lighter, that makes life a little easier as well.

And iff you have a tip, put it in Drive or Netral. If you leave it in park, it is a lot harder to remove the stereo surround

you have to remove the knob 8O first get two thin blades ie butter knives are good the put down either side of the top button apply a little inwood pressure and the button should pop out. Dont lose the spring!!! then just stick a 12mm tube socket and undo the nut then the rest of knob will come off ;)
