does driving tiptronic save petrol?
just out of curiosity...does driving in tiptronic mode save petrol over driving in full auto?
and if so how does it work?

It'll only save petrol if you shift out of each gear earlier than the auto does.
The higher your revs (the dial that goes from 0 - 9, you said you know nothing about cars eh
) the more petrol you are using.
So if you shift at like 2,000 rpm every shift, yes you'll save more petrol than driving in full auto mode... but you'll also get overtaken by grandma on her way to the shops!

The auto will start to learn anyway and shift lower aswell, so loose-loose. Im going to go with auto using less as i guess for the most part people use the sports mode when there feeling sporty- hence the rpm vs. fuel thingo just said above (fuel looses). But then again i guess the auto could start learning that instead so loose-loose again...nicholas wrote:It'll only save petrol if you shift out of each gear earlier than the auto does.

solution- drive a manual, they use less fuel then an auto (average driving)... win-win

Definitely save petrol on manual vs auto. For starters, you're in full control of gearing plus there's less transmission power loss so you can use slightly less throttle to maintain speed. The rpm's of a manual crusing will also be lower than an auto at the same speed.
But most of it comes down to the driver.
You peeps might be surprised to know that granny driving isn't the best way to use less petrol. You granny drive up a hill and because of your lower speed, you'll be on the throttle more than if someone gave it a measured poke then cruised up the hill (using higher torque available because they're going faster hence being higher in the rpm band).
Get a real time fuel consumption readout on your car and you'll understand.

And yes, I'm sure you're right in that particular example, but you know what I mean about granny driving

hmmm i onli ever use the tiptronic when i come to a stop light cause for some unknown reason when i near a stoplight....the car will go down from 4th gear to 3rd gear when slowing and then jump from 3rd to 1st when i actually stop...and when that happens the car will jump foward...very dangers if im real close the car in front....so i manually change it from 2nd to first and it wil go from 2nd to 1st no problem....
dam petrol prices...and i read somwhere that ftos are suppose to run on premium? o m g kiddin me right? cause i been using unleaded for the past 2 top ups....$20 per time...should i switch back to premium? or can i stay with unleaded...cause my mates are like...if your car is meant to run premium and u give it unleaded...its gonna fck up the engine...is that true?
will trade hugs and kisses for free petrol

You should be filling up with premium and neither of these are. Look for any fuels that have the number 98 on the end of them or look at the descriptions on the pumps, they will usually tell you what octane rating they are.8u8813f1uff wrote:o ok ...so should i be filling up unleaded or unleaded 95?
Here are the diff. premium fuels:
Shell = VPower, BP = BP Ultimate, Caltex = Vortex 98, Mobil = Synergy8000
Hope that helps.

+1....and made my car sound better.JOeJOe wrote:Pay an extra 10-12 cents a litre and get premium, personally I like the BP Ultimate. Bit more expensive but worth it, better for performance and better for engine life.

theres a misconception on the way petrol companies use the word "premium"
They catagorize Unleaded95 as pemium also. So take note and insist on getting premium98.
Like Ezza quoted:
Shell = VPower, BP = BP Ultimate, Caltex = Vortex 98, Mobil = Synergy8000
Even thou, i myself pumped 95 sometimes when theres no 98. Your FTO will not melt down becos of that.
