GX Model ?!?!

Post by Boris »

I stumbled onto a 98 GX, and i just have a question or two,

First of all, can i get a confirmation that a GX, is really a GR, but with a little bit more features like ABS, etc... So being like a GR, it also doesn't have mivec... :?

Secondly, most of you know that i'm after a GPX, GPvR, but this GX, is pretty new (been imported 2003) and has 60000km's on the clock, and it seems in good condition. Also it is just under $20,000 which is cheap for a 98 model, where GPX's, are around the $23,000 mark.

For the GX: It's one of the newest and cleanest cars i've seen so far, it's a good price for a 98 (i think), Also not many newer fto's around, might have to wait more... It's at a dealer, so i can get warranty and rego etc...

Agains the GX: It's not as fast as a GPX nor the GPvR, doesn't have as many features, i'm fussy, so the extra HP will matter to me. I haven't fallen 110% in love with it, knowing in the back of my head that it's not as good as a GPX etc...

Is it worth me getting a GX, instead of a GPX or GPvR? I think i already know the answer but maybe someone can share their opinion. I just need re-assurance, don't be afraid to put down your opions guys & gals... I don't mind which side you take...

Boris :)

My opinion, ABS and a facelift or Mivec? To me, there's no question which way I'd go... Mivec baby!!!

Besides, you could always change the front lip anyways on the pre facelift models, and there were a few gpx that came with ABS.

Lol I should also say, I've been FTO shopping (still am) for about 3-4 months... so I guess, I'm the king of fussy, but at the rate i'm going I'll never get an FTO. :(

I've been shopping a good 3 months too now. lol...

I'm not really after a pre-facelift model, it has to be 97+ with not too many kilometers.

After looking around at 94/95 models, i found like you are finding that most of them have things wrong with them.

Because i'm going to keep this car for a while, i want to buy the newest i can get, because you will find that money wise it will work out the same in the end, if not cheaper for the newer one due to resale value.

In most cases you will spend more money on 94/95 models fixing oil leaks and so on... And i'm not that type of guy that sleeps peace fully when my car has things wrong with it, like leaking oil.

So the question is, do i want to get this GX, which is exactly what i want but no MIVEC... or do i wait another 2/3 months and also fork another 2/3 grand for a GPX... will i have to just get over the extra 20HP's...

I'm not saying that newer cars wount have any problems, sure they are going to have problems, but atleast when they do, i will be more financially settled, and i will be prepared to fix things.

My logic may be diffrent to other people :P

That if you are prepare to paid at least $1000 for the whole set.

$600 for the front bumper, & $600 for the front indicators & fog lights. 8O

I would suggest you keep searching Boris, otherwise you might regret it later down the track (pun intended  ). I was a bit lucky with my purchase. It only took me about 3 weeks to find a 97 GPX way back in 2001. And I got it for a great price too. So I'm sure you'll find one eventually. Let import dealers know that you're looking for one and maybe you'll strike gold :P

WOW, talk about extremly clean.

but still... i wouldnt get another FTO if it wasnt MIVEC'd. but if your not fussed about a MIVEC engine, i'd say go for it, but if you wanna impress anyone get a GPX.

Having though about it, i have made a decision to walk away.
Mivec is pretty important, and i think like everyone here and my friends have said i will regret it. :?

I guess what's the point of getting an fto without Mivec? Better to wait.

I'm crossing my fingers that another example like this pops up soon, and i'm hoping that it's a gpx/gpvr...

Thanx to all the ppl that contributed to this thread.
