Coilover recomendations OR something else ...

Post by xSlurpee »

Ahhh i bought some new RAYS GRAM LIGHTS (well new owner) and theres absolutely no hope of them being fitted on even if i higher my car by 3inches ... soo what would i need? springs? suspension? shocks? all this thingy is very confusion

Well i talked to brother about it and he says congrats on wasting money you dickhead ... fix it up yourself. Not much help there lol

So, im planning to fully do my suspension (chuck out current and replace with new ones) but havnt got any ideas on pricings and where to get this done at.

Help me out guys. Any explainatioons and advice and estimate of price will be greatly appreciated ;)

well it could be a suspension problem cos the standard ones have the covers around them which make them wider then they should be. Go to a local beurepaires etc and see what they say...but first wait for replys here so you dont waste your time.

what size are the rims mate and tyres? unless they are 20s or something stupid they should fit under the car or are they 9 inch wide or somthing?

as for coilovers you have many options I think many here like the G4 think they are about 1200 or so but there are many other options availible like using lowereing springs which you cant adjust ride height ie kings or tein with adjustable damper shocks so you can still comfort levels of driving on streets coupled with pillow ball strut tops for adjustable camber or even adjustable strut knuckle bolts for camber but less settings

Ahh yes the very friendly and helpful kiwi bloke :)

The rims are 18" and when i stacked it next to my stockies its like already higher than the arches and bear in mind, the wheel hubs sitting higher too. The tyre shop guy said you'll need to spend some big money for new suspensions. (bloody hell, money is the issue)

i believe my springs have been cut / removed off for the lowness (the car is sooo bumpy and harsh even on a decent freeway road)

I will try to take my car to pedders and let them do a suspension check and also ... ask them for futher advice on what i can do to get my rims fitted without spending 1000dollars+

Or should i work my ass off making barely 200$ a week and save up for some good coiliovers? *cries*

try them on the car first of course they will look big just sitting next to the others
failing that if your springs have been cut change them asap its very dangerous they can become uncaptive and you dont want that!
so you can then either save for coilovers or just replace with lowereing springs cost about 400 new and easy to change DIY is somewhere...
proving the rims are not to wide no more than 8inch and you have right tyres think 215/35x18 they should be a sweet fit ;)

Alright, cheers, i might hassle my mum to take me to somewhere like pedders tomorrow, then supercheap auto soo i can buy a jack and do the wheels myself :?

And yeah the rims are 225 (same as stock rims)

Any more information on coilovers? i want something thats comfy and is good on the handling side too. Thanks vipfto *kisses*

I dont want ya kisses who knows where that dirty mouth of yours has been

But yeah get it checked out if they have been cut jack the car up and if you can grab spring and move it rather freely then not a good sign 8O
and if you change yourself you will need spring compressors can buy for around 30 dollars from supercheap etc and be carefull doing them easy to hurt yourself then you wont be kissing anyone ;)

i woult be suprised if my rear springs are backwards ... the "apexi" sign is upside down (spotted this when it was hoisted up fixing cv joints)

And im only going to try on the wheels to see if the rub etc

But i dont want to spend $500-ish on springs then later upgrade ...

i remember seeing bennoz doing something with suspensions. Arghh long read on the forums tonight. *kisses vipfto*

take it to wholesale suspensions and ask them to make it fit. Around 500-600 should fix the probelm and thats with a whole new set of king springs fitted to match the wheels.

Didnt I tell you slurpee that they wouldnt fit with your car the way it is?

EDIT: and dont go to pedders. or get spacers and roll your guards

Ahh sweet as, thanks for the steve ... i think im still young and thinking way too much for the amount of moneu i earn lol

Soo at the moment heres my plan.
King springs to fit the size of these wheels.
and maybe for my 18th b-day ima celebrate it and invite all my relo's and hopefully they give me some dosh :P

THEN, some good coilovers and maybe some P1 SF or Ozzy RS-GT with semi-slicks

(after much thinking im keeping this car till i have a family with children ... gonna put myself into more dept after owning the FTO through my provisional license
THEN ESPECIALLY buy an S15 spec R at 21 ... and i can sense the modifications i want will cost my both my kidneys
