I got a tip GR and i can beat a lot of commodores and fords.. my friends got a 3.8l ford ghia and vn commodore, and i've always whooped his ass. at the start its pretty even but den after 3rd gear im gone. I can beat most N/A cars except for a prelude Vtir. The prelude was the only N/A car i've lost too. My car is pretty much stock except for the exhaust.

looks like you probably haven't matched up against an Integra Type-R (DC2) yet... if you've lost to the Prelude (assuming it's in NA form) then you have no chance of beating the DC2R... but if you can really beat a Commie with a tip GR then you are doing pretty well already. :D

Just to put things in perspective...

The FTO is not going to be able to beat every car out there. At the end of the day it is 2L and 150kw (less in the case of the GR), so don't be disapointed if you can't beat something with twice the engine size!

To have "size issues" over not being able to beat cars with larger engine sizes is just silly. Would you expect a commodore or falcon to beat something which had an engine twice the size of theirs?

It seems that on the street we forget about engine size, whereas if we were to race the FTO on the track, we would be divided into different classes based on the engine size, and in the case of the FTO we would only be racing other cars that had a 2L engine.

There's more important things in life than what car you can drag off.

I think the problem is that ppl will start to compare cars no matter what Litre or cyclinder it had.

Just like the common agrument WRX or EVO (Both 2L with 4 cyl) Vs GenIII or Boss (Both at least 5.0L with 8 cyl) even though they are completely different type of technology, people will still compare. After all it doesn't matter if you win by an inch or meters, a win is a win (quote from Fast & The Furious ehhehehhehe)

i don't race too many car's these days but when i do i don't normally have problems, V8's can be a problem from time to time but the v6's are normally easy.

even with my car feeling down on power at the moment at worst the race is even (i.e. less than half a car length either way).

the tip box though really does drain a lot of power.

True for a racing / drag situation, but I far prefer the tip for day to day driving (esp. peak hour)

the only reason i bought the manual is because i can drive it the way it's meant to be DRIVEN.

i've driven tiptronics before and there was no way i'm going to take my chances with them again (unless it's a BMW SMG ;))

...but then again this thread is not about manual vs tip so i rest my case! :P

i drive my tip the way a manual is supposed to be driven and have had no problems with it what-so-ever. i also only put in the best oils i can find and other parts so that may well have something to do with it (and why other people have had problems that i have not).

i drive the same way as smorison does, tip all the way everyday... :o

but does it stuff up the gears or anything using tip all the time? it wasn't made to be driven like a dogbox i think... my box is beginning to 'clank' between gears :( [/quote]

It really doesn't matter if you change the gears (tiptronic mode) or you let the car do it all itself (fully automatic), it won't make any difference.

The thing to remember is that moving the tiptronic lever up or down doesn't actually change the gear, rather it is just a switch that tells the car to change the gear up or down. The auto gearbox then takes care of this request and changes the gear in the appropriate and optimal manner.

Although you initiate / request the gear change you don't actually perform it, the clever INVECS II system does all that and it also prevents you from damaging the gearbox, such as down-shifting when the revs are too high.
