Its not a GPX wing its a GR wing, unless my car is a GPX Sweet lol......oh there goes the turbo project

i'm actually quite interested in knowing how to remove the limiter. i drive the manual version of the GPX and i travel the m4 5 days a week for 30km. i'm burning up so much petrol going at 130km/h at 4200rpm.
i have been racking my brains on how the gears work. i often feel that the relatively short final gear is terrible. does anyone feel that the fto is more complete with a 6th gear? all my gears are pretty short, even the 5th gear.
short of replacing the 5th gear, does anyone have any idea if derestricting the fto will make the 5th gear taller? s**t man... this question sounds stupid to even my own ears. i mean, a gear is fixed with a set amount of teeth right? so i guess there is no way? please enlighten me. the fto has so much potential. i just feel that mitsu have placed plenty of restrictions on it.
im understand how you feel. but fto is already stated as a high revving engine car. like the type r. it needs to be revved higher than other cars to get any decent power/speed.
damn, im driving up newcastle this weekend and i'll see how much fuel is going to cost me.

Not a wise thing to claim, going a bit over the speed limit there.
Removing the limiter has nothing to do with gear ratio's. All removing the limiter will do is enable to you drive over 180kmh (on a track of course.)
If you think your gear ratio's are to short, then start investigating a longer final drive ratio - ie the diff ratio. A longer final drive will in effect lengthen all gears.
I wouldn't worry too much about the RPM's when cruising peeps...
The engine has a redline of 8k rpm (for mivec) and is obviously set up to produce power mid/high. If you change the diff ratio to lengthen all gears, you will most likely find that at cruising highway speeds, if you need to go up a hill or overtake, you'll be busy changing gears vs giving it a little more gas. Also sitting on those rpm's doesn't mean you're killing the fuel either.
Put simply, Mitsu have done a proper job in relation to gearing and engine power curve characteristics. There's not much point changing the diff ratio to get longer gears unless you've gained monstrous torque via SC, Turbo or momentary nos shots. If you're interested in grand touring your car etc, i'm sorry but you've bought the wrong vehicle. To me, the gear ratios were pretty spot on...after some mods sure i could've used a taller fifth gear but Mitsu never intended for all owners to mod their FTOs.
Oh, changing your diff to a larger one will slow make your car slower as well.

true... oh well... its not like i go 130 all the way, some parts of the m4 are pretty straight and long, so its a nice place to test out the revs and speeds of the 5th gear. also, occassionally you get stuck behind a few slower moving cars and short bursts of acceleration to overtake is quite fun, especially just to hear the mivec roar.
but i think i understand a little more about what mitsu tried to achieve when they built this car. to me, its a civic type r (EK9) killer, its a car that is meant to corner at high speeds and can be driven by novice to pro drivers because of its FF layout. Its cheaper to maintain than a FR car becuz you done have the shaft to worry about. its designed for track attacks rather than drag races due to its reluctance of "accepting" forced inductions.
how to get the limiter off? anyway, im probably have no balls to go anywheremore than 180kph. lol
The limiter is controlled ny the ecu, so you need to either get a chip piggy back or standalone

mate 130 im doing just 3500rpm and i have a 4spd tip

Ben could not be any more correct

doesnt the manual and auto have different gear ratios? hence the 5 spd vs 4 speed? correct me if i'm wrong but i think only for the pre face lifted ones, the manual is like 0.5-0.8s quicker 0-100 than the auto...
