superchargers

Post by craigt »

who's interested?
im seriously thinking about building a kit for the non mivec motor using the toyota sc14 superchargers we use in our other kits.
I want to know whos interested before i start this.
kit will cost around the same as our others $2415.00 for three to four psi or if we can do it there will be an 8-9 psi kit for around $3500.00.
i had a look on the weekend and came up with some ideas that will hopefully work.
craig.

Dont wanna pop your bubble, but the sc14 blower wont fit in the engine bay - at least without the expense of loosing air con & relocating the raditator.

I've been through this fitting process, the best fit blowers are the Vortech units mounted at the gearbox end of the motor with a long extension drive to tack onto the PS / Air con belt.
Only issue is the $3-5k retail price of the blower itself.

Alternatively I was going to cut up the intake & shoe horn either an Eaton M45 or M62 in there. A swedish Autorotor would probably also fit up along the back of the intake (granted that you cut the intake up) - but again, a pricey unit.

Most of my research is in this 6 page thread:

had a look and your right, not much room. but great minds think alike and the drive shaft idea should work if you mount the blower on the transmission end of the motor. will have to relocate the airflow sensor and asshole the cold air intake but after thats done there should be plenty of room.
our moto is make it fit...

my idea was to go between the inlet runners and the valve cover. but thinking about it the engine mount may be in the road ...will have another look tonight.

Mivec (aka variable valve timing) was designed to give naturally aspirated engines more power. Forced induction & variable valve timing dont mix...

totally agree with ben, i have looked at this and expense vs potential, tubo's is the way cheaper option.

I also had a look at running the shaft behind the engine, so basically the supercharger on gearbox side but at the back, I cant remember now whether it would of work or not though :?

Yep. I looked into that as well. Space issue killed it. You'd have the supercharger which provides instant power from low rpm, run a pressure valve of it, so it would spool up the turbo at say 4500rpm, then have the turbo take over. Thats what the new VW Golf TDI has...

... may seen sad, but everyday i dream of owning a turbo'd and supercharged FTO running 9's without it being stripped

Too easy, if you got the money for it, but i think the older 4g63's dohc from <evo8's would fit abit easier?

edit : but the amount of money spent on an evo conversion ... you could buy a new evo 8 with some spare dosh left for mods
