Did i get a fine ?

Post by harry90 »

Ok, so for the first time in my life i got pulled over by a police. It was an undercover cop car.
He came upto my window and said "you know what you did?" and i said no, but suspected that he thought i was speeding in a school zone. He then said i was speeding in a school zone. I said that i went upto 70km/s after passing the end school zone sign.
He then asked for my license and asked whattmy driving history was like. He circled my car (there was 2 of them) and checked my p plates were correctly displayed. He then came to my window and told me that i had been speaking my my phone at the previous traffic light (because he saw my phone in the cup holder), but i said i didnt speak, but just checked the time. He then gave me my license and they got in their car and drive off. Didnt say anything else or ask anything more.
Im not sure if they even took my license into their car, but yea.
Can anyone tell me if i have gotten fined ? or shed any light on what has happened, cos i am confused. They just got in their car and drove off.

If they were going to fine you they would've given you a ticket on the spot.

Forget it. They're called on-the-spot fines for a reason.

Had the same thing happen to me when i first got the car. Was pulled over by an undercover for doing 80-90ish in a 60 zone. When he got to the car he asked if there was any reason why i was doing 80-90ish (cant remember exact figures)? I said that i didnt realise i was going that fast, and he asked how my driving record was, which i replied to as being clean and having no demerits.
He took my licence back to the car (presumably to check i wasnt bull$hiting) and when he came back just told me to watch my speed and have a nice day.

I think if you're genually honest and dont try to come up with some crap excuse, and they havnt just caught you dragging down the strip.... they generally let you off with a warning........ helps if its a decent copper aswell!

Personal experience.

I've heard of plenty of P platers getting pinged for 5km/h over too.

Hard to come to terms with but inconsistency and hypocritism are the name of the game.

when i got my fine, it wasn't until 3 weeks later. i thought they were just using a scare tactic for all that time. at least my mates paid my fine, and the drunkens i was with that night also felt guilty about it and chipped in too...just mean 1 point till i get my greens in october, but that hasn't stopped me driving a ford focus like an fto

Did you challenge that?
i would have..what f**king dirty pig decides he's going to book a P-plater for going 5km/h extra down a hill at 6:30AM?
That's the kind of thing i would think about physically assaulting our fine correction officers over..

its ironic i didn't crash it, or total it though, and maybe a slight bit embarrasing

what would you prefer, a traffic fine, or a court order for assaulting a poice officer? i'd just take the fine, challenge it, and deal with it.[/quote]

Actually, you could get a fine.

When I lost my license, it was the first time I'd been pulled over as well. I lost all 7 points in 1 go. Back then I was on my green Ps and it was double demerit weekend.

I was doing 16 kms over the limit, I had a decent conversation with the cop, he seemed nice and we had a bit of a chat and I told him I appreciate the police blah blah and then he didn't issue me with a fine or even seemed like he took my details down.

However, later I got a fine in the mail, and a letter saying my license was suspended.

This happened when he was waiting on the side of the road with a radar though. So if the cop who caught you was stationary with a radar, you'll get a fine more likely than not.

HOWEVER - If he WASN'T then you're in the clear. I got pulled over 2 weeks ago doing 70 in a 60 zone. The cop came out of nowhere and I know he must have been in the side street somewhere. Pulled me over, said
"What's wrong with your driving today"
"Nothing"
"You know how fast you were going?"
"Not sure, around 65?"
Cop says "65? try a 100"
I said " Pretty sure I wasn't doing a 100, couldn't have been doing more than 65"
he goes "So, who're you calling a liar, you or me?"
I said "It's not my intention to call anybody a liar, I just know I wasn't doing more than 65"

He took my license, asked me "Have you got any driving offenses?"
I said "Not since I've had my full license" Which is true, cos I havn't.

So he checked it out, said my license was clean, but he was going to book me for 1 demerit point. Which was bullshit, cos there's no fine for 1 demerit point, and I didn't get a fine also. He said he's letting me off cos he has me on his radar clocked doing 100 which I more bullshit cos I know I was doing 70 when he pulled me over.. was just trying to intimidate me.

So yea, if he was stationary, you can possibly receive a fine like I did when my license was suspended, otherwise you should be ok.
I have to work - People on the dole depend on me.
