THanks for that, I tried looking for as much information as I could, not completely 100% sure on this, but basically the engine number should read out like this? 6A12G?

Also, the car did have climate control, wasn't the gpx, the only one to have climate control?

BTW The guy just called me up again, and offered to drop the price, if I skipped the inspection... he is geniunely scared of something, maybe it's stolen? What pieces of information do I need to check if it's stolen??

now that's scary 8O
didn't think he was that scared of an inspection.... if he is... then he could be hiding something... then that could be a waste of $$ for inspection.. that's dodgy (to say the least)..

here is NSW you call up REVS provide the reg. #, VIN # and engine #
this will check if the car has any money owing on it, they tell you over the phone.. and for $10 you get a certificate to guard against repossesion.
What I also did was call RTA and checked the guys name against his Reg. # (make sure the name and address are the same listed on RTA and the one you're dealing with).

what's he offering now?

I didn't bother listening, I said, I was getting the car inspected, and thats that... but yeah, i'm really questioning, wheather it's even worth getting inspected....

just trying to think what he could be sooo scrared of that you couldn't pick up....
did you look under the car?
hows the underbody????? maybe it's fully rusted and almost not treatable??
that's one of the things that I can think of, that we don't usually check but inspectors do... or maybe it's been in a very bad accident....

written off.... rebuilt by some ppl.. and tries to sell it...
by the way.. let this be a warning to some...
there are lotsa ppl that goes to auctions, buy's written off cars (eg. 2002 model lancer with 5000Kms) for $3000.... rebuilds it and sells it for $17K etc... that's why it pays off to get it inspected...

Lol... well, the lesson hasn't quite been learned yet :p....

but it's extremely iffy, it seems :p

I'm gonna take a bit of a break rite now... my brain is loosing it, i just keep tossing up between all these cars right now, and im started to feel a bit nauscice lol.

Lol... on a completely other note, that ebay "GPvR", i think isn't a "celebaration model" thingy, after all. I'm not quite sure, but if you look at http://www.mitsubishi-fto.org/info/colours.htm you'll see that colour, on what appears to be a GPX. More so, the tiptronic gearbox, only had 4 gears.

And there is no mention of ABS, and i'm fairly certain, it was only a single airbag car....

SO MANY DIFFERNT FTO's outhere!! God damit!

OFF TOPIC: yellow was limited to the "special edition" of the FTO, all the other colours can be found on all of the models. However, some such as the Icelle blue are rarer than others.

Yup, thats, pretty much what I've figured, but, he has it advertised as a "celberation model" and didn't all GPvR's, come with a 5 speed tip box? and didn't they all have LSD, ABS and Twin Airbags?

The series two models (late '96 onwards) had the 5 speed and ABS.

Could be wrong, but fairly certain only the manual models came with LSD

Only the manuals came with an lsd. This gpvr was one of the first gpvr ever made and was manufactured dec 96 it would have been first registered in 97 and as such would have been one of the first ftos produced with the facelifted front but still only came with one airbag. The facelifted fto probably didnt get dual air bags or the 5 speed auto until it was in full prodution or until they had finished raiding the spare parts bin.

Don't know whether or not it's classified as a "celebration model" or not but GPvRs usually comes in white, black or red. So blue is a rare colour for a GPvR. And it has the GPvR seats as well. Unless someone has gone through a lot of trouble making it look like a GPvR. But the engine number should be able to tell you what model it is.

Still looking!!!

Post by Guni_GuGu »

God damit! I've been shopping for FTO's for a god damn while now... really starting to get old!!!

I thought, if I could, I should have a bitch about the last few fto's I went to look at... I am so sick, of driving down all over melbourne, to look at a GPX only to find out, it's a GR!!!!! It's so damn frustrating, ESPICALLY WHEN IT's ADVERTISED AS GPX!!!

Also, when people make no mention at all, today, I went to look at a $22,00 yellow FTO, you'd think for 22 grand it would be a Mivec!!! NOPE!! It's a GR!! I don't want to get into a debate, on why a GR is still a good car, but FFS! How much is a gr!?31? $22k I think not!!

Anyhoo, I'm looking at two fto's now, one at a dealership, very stock standard, had some scratches, but the engine bay looked in very good nick, not an oil leak in sight, asking I think was 18-19.... was hoping possibly to get him down to 16.... What annoyed me though, was the side skirts looked messed up, kinda hard to explain, but it diddn't look as smooth as they should..

There is also one more in SE suburbs (otherside of where I live) which I hope to check out soon, black as well, will see how she goes....

But, after all this fto shopping, I think i'm leaning toward maybe another car... I love FTO's, but so hard to find my baby, I did find a million preludes 97+ in similar price range... Anyone know what the prelude puts out at the wheels in stock form?

Rant over :p

Keep looking around, i think the longer you look the better, it just means that you are a very carefull person. Having just got my fto yesterday, i can tell you straigh away, it is worth the wait mate.

Don't go for the Preludes... even the type-r aint fast, they are just luxury cars for the elders :) (No offence to any one)

yeah, I know, and I agree completely... but, one part of me is really sick of looking for a car!!!

On the lighter side, I think I've found miss right with one GLARING FLAW!!!!

SHE'S RED!!! 97 facelift, with kyb suspension, momo wheel, rims, sunroof, RAZO Hard shift and pedal gear, K&N air filter, cusco strut, 5-zigen Exhaust System...

BUT SHE'S RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anything but red! he'll i'd take brown before red!!!

How much do you think a simple respray would cost?

Well, I went ahead and got that red baby inspected...

The report hasn't come in yet, but the inspector, actually told me, DO NOT BUY THIS CAR.

The report is meant to be faxed over around 6:30, but it's meant to be in very bad nick..

WTF is going on seriously? I mean, this car was advertised at $25k! It wasn't the cheapest FTO! Why can't I find one god damn relaible FTO?
