Brakes

Post by dstocks »

Can brake pads be too hard for discs?. I put a set of slotted rotors on about 6 months back and have just noticed that the disc surface is not smooth anymore. And no, the pads arent particularly low (and havent been changed since the discs went on)

Pads can definitely be too hard on discs, like when you stick a set of track oriented pads and keep the stock discs.

You could also have overheated the pads if they are poor quality - that can cause damage to the disc to as the formula changes properties. You may have cooked them.

You cant just machine slotted rotors as per normal methods either - because the slots themselves will snap off a lathe style grinding tip on the portable machining devices. You need to pull the rotors off completely & have them surface machined by a fixed machine.

squealing comes from glazed rotors, from getting too hot all the time. either get them machined or buy some emery tape from supercheap and samd those bitches down

either thator the warning tab on the pads is hitting the disc so they need to be replaced
