Bantering

Post by mouse »

I know even as a newbie im gonna cop it but i gotta say
I just read through a thread about a member who just found out what his car is an aero or somthing.
I can tell you i have no idea what my daughters car is other than an FTO gr.
I dont care much for boy racers who think they have a right to hang heaps of crap on other members bout their cars.
This thead to a new or potentially new member can have devistating effects on people who dearly love their cars and want to contribure in a positive manner to the club.
I also know a lot was said tounge in cheek as you may know all people in person however for us that dont it looks pretty bad and make newbies feel they shouldnt pass comment bout anything in case of being ridiculed.
Just my opinion.
Pretty sure i will cop it now but wth had to say my peice..

he's not a new member, and we 'banter'him because he plagiarised an old member's turboed car claiming it was his, for his own benefit on another forum which yet another member exposed, thats why we give him sh*t.
because he deserves it.
its been and done.

Know what you're saying bud, we do take the piss quite a bit here, and even though we know it's in good humour, could be taken otherwise.

Most of us are always ready to help out. Hell, I know I've asked some pretty bloody stupid questions over the years. Still do sometimes!

hey this guy does have a point, even though it's all in good humour, it can still be taken way out of context by newbies, he's just saying that we should think about what we say and how we say it, cos this is a public forum after all and we are judged as a club by how we conduct ourselves

valid point mouse ;)

please don't feel that the treatment directed towards that member
is a true representation of how we normally behave as a club,
that member you're referring to had offended a quite a few people here with his antics.
but the issue is now over & done with
and Bennoz has made it pretty clear that continued "bantering"
(or abuse) of that member won't be tolerated.

ALL OUR MEMBERS HERE ARE VALUED
whether it be newbies wanting to find out the basics,

Firstly, Mouse - bravo for coming out and speaking your mind.

You are absolutely correct that threads such as the one you mention could be read by new members and taken the wrong way. This is something that we all need to keep in mind and be careful with - it's a fine line we walk.

The nature of the internet is that people tend to be a little quicker to criticise and a little harsher with what they say; it is what it is, and that isn't a problem specific to FTOAustralia.

Finally though, as manofwood has already pointed out, the reception that the particular member you refer to received, was in my opinion just and deserved.

The facts are that he claimed things about his car which were downright false and actually took the time to steal and post up images of someone else's pride and joy, which can't have been a heat of the moment thing.

Then after a few months absence (the absence suspiciously and coincidentally begun exactly at the point that someone outed him on this forum) he decided to return and rather than eat humble pie and apologise (which he still has not done to date) he proceeded to boast about his car and abuse people who voiced their opinion that he had done wrong.

So, yes - people were harsh, but no - he wasn't a new member, and he should have known better, and respected the rest of the FTO Australia community.

Unlike a few other clubs, we actually frown upon the whole "Boy racer trying to prove he's better than the rest" image.

This is exactly the reason why he copped a bit of crap. If anybody else had posted that same thread - and I literally mean ANYBODY else, they would have received a different response.

That particular member has some very negative history with the forum. Everybody on these forums treats others in the way they themself expect to be treated - with respect.
Nobody flames anybody for coming out and sharing what they have or havn't done to their car. Don't judge it based on that one thread. That particular member is exactly the opposite of everybody else on here, which is why he got negative comments.

MAYBE MAKE THIS A STICKY

I agree with pretty much all thats been said, but the point that mouse is making is that its irrelevant whether he deserved it or not, its the fact that other people will see it and could think we are all a bunch of ^&&**(*(*))()))_)_&&^^%$%$ or just will not contribute to the forum because of worrying about ridicule and i agree.

I'd like to motion that two actions be put forward as a result of this discussion:

1. This thread be stickied in the newbie section so that they understand we're not really douches.

2. We write up an "Olliezz Turbo DIY" describing all the steps you should NOT take unless you want to end up in his situation.

I see your point mate & don't disagree ..

But .. 1 thread, or comments directed at a single user (who, let's face it .. has in the past & still does treat every other member with disrespect & holds himself to a higher standard in his own mind) doesn't really give one an accurate view of the club attitude / environment on here..

For the most part everyone on here takes the piss / jokes around & don't mean anything in a harsh way..
Someone has to do something pretty seriously messed up to cop flaming on here.

Just have to check out the newbies thread to see how welcoming everyone here is ;)
