CHRISTIANITY: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Its the Hyundai mentality. Start with the cheapest pile of crap you can find, spend an absolute packet on dressing it up and what do you have.........
Unfortunately, still a piece of crap. The only difference is it now rattles like a bastard (although you probably wouldnt hear most of those due to the increased wind noise) and freezes your proverbials off due to lack of insulation. I guess noone would be bothered to steal it - thats a plus (or is it a minus, im not sure).

Ouch ... I find myself defending Hyundai all the time ... They are good cars ... Sure, don't buy an excel ... Hyundai had a range of cars that were better... Excel, Lantra ... OK bottom of the line ... Sonata, great car - great value... Then Granduer etc. etc.dstocks wrote:Its the Hyundai mentality. Yes, I had a Sonata ... and in the 10 years of owning it, the clutch was replaced once, wheel bearings once and that was it ... Had the full electronics package, and the car had a great feel to drive it ... Went even better with a bolt in 4G63t engine ... So I guess I am an idiot for spending money on a Hyundai ...
But I love how everyone here can't stand when a FTO is questioned about it's looks, performance, and then they do all their lillte body mods, lambo doors, etc. etc. And gets cut when someone doesn't like their idea of doing up their car ...
Although I don't like the look of that ford, it is done up to the owners taste ... Sure he has taken design aspects off other cars and tried to make them fit a ford ... He may think he has pulled it off, but you know what the say about opinions ... They are like @sshole's ... Everyone has them ....

Sorry, maybe wasnt specific enough and I do take your point (
). Was actually talking about the Excels not the other models. Yes, they got car of the year, but were the cheapest thing on the market at the time and the number you used to see done up was incredible (and the amount people spent was horrendous). Notice you dont see any of them anymore. I actualy drove one a couple of times and was mystified as to why anyone would do it. It wasnt as if the car was unique. It wasnt sporty, didnt handle or go fast and didnt hold its resale after a stack of money was spent on it. It was just a cheap car that for the first 100K was relaible.
Besides, you can always pay out on me for spending 30K on a 76 Galant
. That was a bit of a waste as well!

Not having a go at anyone, but yeah, most of the point is doing up a car is to an individuals taste... And I guess you pimp what you can afford at the time ... I remember buying the Sonata ... Set me back 28k to buy ... But it was well worth it ... It went good for a 4cly, had no drama's with it, insurance didn't kill me, and it was insured in my name as an 18 year old ...
Sure, for 28k in 97 I could have imported a jap car, but back then there was not too many of them around ... Most people were doing up Rotary's and VB/VC commys ...
But yeah, most people get a car they can afford, and do it up to their taste gradually .. which is the main point here ...
If you want to see some tastefully done up Hyundai's you only need to go to www.hyperaustralia.com .... There are still a few excel's going around, but some of the later model cars really do get some good performance for the buck ...

Just on excels - I actually drove around in 1 for 3 months while my FTO was being repaired by my smash repairer. It was a little green manual, and before driving it I always thought people had bad taste in doing them up, but after actually driving one and truly getting to know the car my perspective changed... I realised that the car was far sh*tter than I could have ever possibly imagined and the people who did them up were completely clueless to what a "automobile" is. I believe in people liking cars for what they are but honestly, why an excel? I had to step on it to keep up with other cars driving at a normal pace, the handling was terribad.
I came up across a white excel once, he had taco's everywhere, a full body kit, fresh paintjob, the works. I decided it would be funny to "race" him. He was driving an auto, I was in a little manual, I give it all, so does he. The cars are like side by side and I'm like "wtf". I really couldn't help but laugh. Honestly, any decent sports car that people like or even a decent family car, whatever, I can understand people have their own perspectives but I really don't understand the whole thing about done up excels.
Speaking of some great old school cars.. the Familia's people do up, you can get them dirt cheap and a lot of them have had engine rebuilds. My friend's brother was driving his WRX, sees a little shitbox coming up alongside him. He steps on his WRX a bit, the car to his left is still coming up fast, so he gives it all, guns it but still the little car next to him is coming on fast, goes past him with seemingly no effort.. My friend's brother is shocked, as am I in the back seat. The car was a Familia, license plates were "UR2EZ"
