Still logged in... help

Post by Guest »

Hey steve, i sent you an e-mail about this, but since my e-mail server is down, this is the best medium for communication.

The website still thinks that i'm logged in... and i can't re login. Everytime i try i think it saves a cookie banning me from the website...

Has anyone else had this problem... :?

Thanx

You are right that it is cookie that is keeping you logged in. So through your browser either delete all the cookies you have or if you feel like a search find the one for this site. It will be listed as "www.ftoaustralia.com"

Ok, i better fully explain what's going on...

This is what is happening, when i login, with my details, it takes ages and goes to a page not found, and saves a cookie on my computer.

This cookie prevents me accessing the website. So i can't even open the main page. I delete this cookie. I can now go as a guest onto the website. At this point i ALWAYS see my member name "borya" as being logged in on the website.

The system logs me off after sometime... and the same thing continues... Even if i try to relogin, when i'm already logged in.

Now, i have 4 top computers at my house, they all do the same thing, the ones at uni that i have tried also do the same thing... :(

Not a happy camper... please advize if i need to register again...

Thanx 4 your help ruchi btw. :)

This website is created using a program called PHP-Nuke, the cookies that PHP-Nuke create do not include any information that would direct you to another page.

The fact that the website sees you are being logged in, means that your login did in fact work. The fact that you don't disappear for a while is because the website only checks who is online on a periodic basis (every x number of minutes). Once this "X" minutes is up, then you will no longer be listed as logged in.

Due to the way PHP-Nuke issues its cookies, and unless the administrator changes it, the cookies are created for the full domain including the "www" i.e. the cookie is created for "www.ftoaustralia.com". Now this can be an issue if you type in the website address without the "www"s. In this case you will be viewing "ftoaustralia.com" but the cookie will be set for "www.ftoaustralia.com". This will cause the system to assign you a "session ID" for "ftoaustralia.com and a cookie for "www.ftoaustralia.com this can create some confusion for both you and the PHP-Nuke system.

Your browser or ISP may also have a copy of this site in its cache, so I suggest you do the following and see if it works:
1) Delete the cookie
2) Clear your history / cache
3) Use the full domain name "www.ftoaustralia.com"
4) If you get an error, refresh the webpage at least once (possibly more) to force the page to be reloaded from the server rather than from cache.

Let us know how you go.

Hmm... I know that :D

Well, i've tried those things before... and it didn't work. :(

I doubt that it's my isp's cache, as i tried to login @ uni... i've cleared mine a number of times...

This is beyond my knowledge and it skills, maybe i'll try retrieving my password... hmm...

It is very very strange... that the server executes the login procedures, without sending me any data... hmm well i'm stumped... honestly...

Is your browser set to accept cookies?

Are you using IE? If so, your security settings maybe too high and although the website tries to place a cookie on the computer, IE ignores it.

Try reducing your security level and see what happens.

did you happen to go into your personal settings and change the 'theme'?
I did this and thats exactly what happens to me..

log in, it takes along time until it times out
i believe its waiting for the page to send me the theme which i tried changing it to which probably doesnt exist....

hence the 'Mk2' in SilentBobMk2 ;)

Do you remember which template you choose? It would be wise for others to be aware so they don't choose the same one, or even better for Steve to fix up or remove that template.

In terms of Steve fixing up your old username, all he would need to do is find your record in the user database and manually type in the name of another template (one that works), and then your username would work fine again.

Again Boris, it would just be a matter of manually altering the post figure in the database.

So what other symptons does she have Mikey? Did she change her theme too?

Yeah, ofcourse... I donno about actually linking the posts to my new profile, because the post count value in the db can't exist without some sort of link to the actuall post... so then you can browse you post history :)

Correct me if i'm wrong mate :)

This problem could be big if something isn't done about it. I still haven't heard from Steve about this... Steve??? :?

Boris, the post count figure can be manually altered in the database. It would be possible for example to bring Mikey down to 0

OK, I've had a look at the coding of this website and have worked out a solution (it helps when you develop websites ).

Here is a solution for all those effected:

1) The first thing you need to obtain is your original User ID, this will be a number. If you don't know how to do this, then post a message here and I'll look it up for you.

2) Log in to this website using your original username and password. I understand that once you login nothing will work, but for this fix to work you MUST be logged in.

3) Replace the XXX in the line below with your User ID, then copy and paste that line into your web browser.

http://www.ftoaustralia.com/modules.php ... =savetheme

4) Once you have done this, the theme should change back to the default one, and you should find yourself back in the "Your Account" area.
