FTO Repair Recommendation - Sydney Area

Post by FTO-150 »

Hi All,

After taking my FTO (97 model) to a standard mechanic for a service I was informed that my engine has an oil leak as well as a leak in the water pump. To replace both of these I have been quoted around $4,000 - $5,000 for parts and labour

Can anyone recommend somewhere in Sydney (preferably closish to Leichardt) where I can take my car to get a realistic quote with professional workmanship so that I can avoid having to sell my car???

Cheers,
Brooke

Well that sounds very expensive. IF theres a leak in your water pump buying a new one and fitting sound cost between 300-500. So that leaves your oil leak. Depending on where it is will dictate the price but 3500-4500 k seems ridiculas considering you could another engine and more for that. Do you know where the oil leak is coming from, cause if you tell us that we amy be able to tell you how much you should expect to pay for it. Which helps when talking to mechanics.

IF you want I can give you the number of my mechanic.

Does an awesome job, at the price will be much better that what you have been quoted. Only problem is he is in Rosebery, not at Leichardt.

pm me for his details.

Hehehe another thread about an FTO mechanic ....

Not trying to be rude to a newby, but there are a few threads on this already ...

My standard phrase is ...

I will always recommend Ricol at peakhurst ....
Aza will recommend Pulse at Menai ....

And there are others along the way ...

UAS are also used, but from what I have seen tend to cost a little more....

 No offence taken!

You are very right though... I am such a Newbie! Can you believe that this is the first forum that I've ever joined??? I think I've been living in the dark ages :)

After reading through many of the discussions, it's great to see that everyone seems so friendly and helpful. I'm very glad that I signed up and look forward to reading more...

Thanks everyone for your advice. I'm definately going to seek a few more quotes before I make up my mind what to do. I love my car and don't want to get rid of it!
