NRMA Test Results.

Post by barfy »

Hi guys and girls,

I just had an NRMA test done on a FTO and i would like to share the results with you all so i can get a clearer picture on how minor or major these problems are......

The car had worn uneven front tyres and also movement of the driverside lower control arm inner foward bush also it steers left when driving, i guess this means it needs suspension work :x Anyone know how much i would be up for ??

Greese sepage at driver side inner drive shaft boot ?? (how bad could this be ??)

Minor mettalic rattlive type noise emanative from upper engine area consistent with valve train noise ?? Apprently this is a minor noise which is at it loudest when cold once warm u can only hear it with the bonnet up. Could this effect the performance of the MIVEC ??

Minor fracture at centre rear engine mount.

Discoloured automatic transmission fluid ( due for a service )

Thats about it, would love some feedback to help make my decision on buying this car

sounds "ok" - "fixable" :? remember it's a 9year old car...

personally for me, the thing that would determine whether I buy this car or not, is WHAT price I'm paying for it?

As long as you don't get blinded by the 'extras' which looks great :)
we've all been there :) ... we love the way the car looks inside and out... but you have to make a decision whether it's 'looks' or 'reliability' that it more important to you.

i don't know if it needs suspension work?? did NRMA say it does? or does it just need wheel allignment? and new tyres?

if the car has only done 52,000Kms... for it to need suspension work... i'd be asking myself "what has this car been through?, Mt. Everest"... but then again, i don't know what the lifetime expectancy of suspensions are??
but i do know that with my old lancer... i did 130,000kms (before selling) and regularly serviced, not once did i have to repair anything to do with the suspension... :?:

but everything sounds 'minor' except for the suspension bit... so I will base my decision on price.
my 2c

sounds like it's been driven hard... wheel alignment is not unusual to be off or pulling, especially if the car's had a meeting with a kerb (not even an accident, just a tap can do it) the loose bushes and control arms would tend to agree with that... might need some repair... as long as the tie rod's straight, you should be OK with that... bushes are cheap - bent tie rod = new steering rack = $$$$

Fractured mount and seeping grease at a boot... is HARD driving... especially the engine mount.. that car's seen a bit of work in the MIVEC zone

The tappet rattle is normal... it's when you can hear it when it's warm, with the bonnet closed and the stereo up that there's a problem ;)

as Lal said, it's 9 yrs old.... it's not new by any stretch of the immagination...
