What would cause brake and accelerator pedals to stiffen???

Post by Rusty12 »

Last week I was driving for about half an hour and then pulled in to re-fuel. I got back into the car, drove off and noticed that the brake and accelerator pedals seemed to be stiff, like it was harder to actually press them down. The handbrake was definately dis-engaged and it seemed worse on the accelerator. You could still get max usage out of them, but they just seemed stiff, as in they wouldn't go down very far.

It seems to have gone away. Any ideas???

if you sit with your car off and pump the brake it will stiffen haven't heard of this happening on the accelerator. it will also disappear once the car has turned on. both work independantly so whatever it is shouldn't be related, if it went away then i wouldn't worry about it too much.

Does the accelerator feel "stiff", as in hard to press down, or is the acceleration less responsive, like it takes longer to accelerate?

ruchi, kinda a bit of both. Its weird. Basically, the pedal doesn't seem to want to go down as far as it normally would, yet you could still get the same amount of revs, power etc by putting it down as far as it would go, but at the same time its not as though it was really touchy, if you know what I mean. its not like you'd push it down a mm and it would redline...

it seems to have gone now anyway.
