Bypassing the Heater Core

Post by FtoSam »

Hey guys…

I’ve had the internal heater core leaking for about a year now… but it only ever lets out a mist that fogs the windscreen… and only once every few months…

Well with the extra pressure the engine is under, I guess it finally let go… and had a pool of coolant on my FTO floor a few days ago…

My old cars heater core clogged up and we just bypassed it from the firewall… Looking to do the same with this… I don’t need a heater, because the amount of heat coming through the firewall is amazing.. so is there any detrimental affects with bypassing the internal heater??

NO

The water pump speed is goverened by the engine rpm. If you've rebuilt the motor to go to 10,000rpm then yes, you might run into difficulties, but Im thinking thats not the case.

The only issue you face is that when bypassing the heater matrix, you send the heated coolant that was to be cooled after passing thru the heater matrix back into the system. Answer is bigger radiator if you havent already got one...

But wouldnt the heated coolant only be cooled down when the heater was on. When the heater was off it is just like going through a pipe. Heat dissapation would be absolutly minimal.

It still goes all the way thru the matrix, only difference is that the fan isnt blowing around it.
