Help - Fitting new gear knob

My new Tip gear knob just arrived, but I"m having a few dramas trying to fit it ..

I've read all the DIY guides, but they don't help with my prob..

The gear knob I've got is a Momo 'Automatico' A/T gear knob

Prob is; when I dummy it into place, its sitting stupidly high on the gear selector stalk ..

The ones I've seen all sit fairly low to the tip gear surround, so I'm thinking that I might have to cut the top of the gear stalk so it can sit lower?

Can someone check the forums on FTOOC for me & see if there is a guide for how to install the Momo Automatico gear knob? Or ask one of the members who has one how they managed to install it?

can't wait to get his thing installed

Did anyone else have to put some glue or something on the 'Tip' button where it is meant to screw in?? The thread on the button is slightly larger, so its not screwing in tightly.

I don't want to have to glue it .. so any suggestions on some 'non-permanent' ways to attach the button would be appreciated

The only thing i can think of so far is to wrap a thin layer of sticky tape around the top of the stalk it needs to screw into so that it pads it out a bit..

Screw in???

From memory there was a hex head bolt on the inside...

I just put a rubber cap over the end of the shaft to stop the metal on metal.

The inner shaft is spring loaded, so was the button on mine. They just sit against one another when the knob is at the right height.

Okay, so the Hex bolt moves up & down when you push in the button?

If so, that makes it easier

Will have to check once I get back home..

Yea, I think the hex bolt connects another plate to the chrome button on top, probably where the spring attaches to.

Then you just use the rubber grommets and grub screws to hold the knob at the right height. Set it so that it's just pushing down on the shaft slightly and it'll have a nice solid feel to it.

That sounds about right, only a Victorian could think silver and burgundy look the same
