Lambo Doors Under Construction.

Post by aftershock »

I am engineering lambo door kits for FTO's and universal sets for other makes/models,I am nearly finished with the 3rd build prototype, just ironing out some glitches. I will be selling off the 1st few sets at low cost to recoup my engineering costs,is anyone interested.Cost will depend on the amount of orders.

I think there will be only a little intrest mate, considering i have spent about $1300 with a mate who is an engineer and still wasnt happy with the final result and theres Umm who is also been in the process for about 8 months building some, not sure how many prototypes hes been through. It just doesnt seem cost effect for the overall result.

So unless you got some hinges that are strong stable and super cheap i dont think there will be too much interest (i could be wrong just my opinion)

Pics pics & more pics mate :)

I might be interested if they're at a 'low cost' ;)

Are they a 90 degree full lift type, or are they more like 60 degrees?

Well i dont think i did jump to conclussions, as i stated "just my opinion". I dint say it couldnt be done or it shouldnt be done. All i said is IMO i dont think there may be too much interest due to the high cost involved in these. What was wrong with that 8O

Im not claiming that it will be the best on the market,i spent $1500 for a set out of the states and they were awful.so using my cnc machine and cad experience ive tried to improve things.,being an engineer i have seen there faults and have tried to fix them.I have the hinges fitting and working, but i am someone who wants things 100%.Tweaks are always needed for something like this modification. I have uploaded a photo on my gallery.

so far i have them at 75 degrees,i havent looked at taking them to 90,personally i dont like the look of 90 doors, but that might be something for me to look at in the future.

As for low cost,i would probably look to sell them at about NZ$700-800 per set.

I prefer 90 for the ease of getting in & out, but 75 might be alright .. 90's still look good though

You got any side on pics?

If they are good - then at that price I think you may see some interest....

Looking forward to seeing some pics.

Theres a bit of rubbing occuring on the inside of the fender with the repeater and the hinge. The door is also a bit close to the fender when vertical for my liking.Im also looking to get maximum angle on the horizontal opening movement, which will allow the owner to get in/out without going vertical. So ive redesigned things and hopefully itll be good.

added another angle photo,

They look exactly like mine. where did you get the strut and ball joint from mine kept breaking the ball joint due to the weight of the door, very unstable. What type of metal are you using for the hinge, do you the have much movement in the air (eg wobbling). You will have to move the indicator, as far as me and umm where concerned, it is impossible without moving it, as the hinge will make contact with it and (IMO) there is no way to possibly stop this. Hmm let me guess the top ball joint of the strut is the part that is rubbing on the fender. Its not much of a rub but defiitly to much to just ignore, yes?

I have some possible suggestions to fix this problem so pm me if you have questions. Im not trying to damper your dreams or be a smartass :D

the hinge in the picture is the 1st build hinge, modified from what i bought in. k now what you mean about the rubbing with the indicator but i have redesigned everything, reduced the thickness by 20mm and increased rigidity of the working hinge. With these mods i shouldnt have to move the indicator but i am looking at capping the indicator with a custom cap i have designed. As for material, the current build is mild steel but im looking into aircraft alloy for the next.Good point about the ball joint,i might get a different type.
Cheers for that.
