Hey guys hope you all doing well!
I have a question, Is there a major diffrence between sound, speed and power of car between the gpx mivec ver and the gr non-mivec version (Transmission:Manuals) ?
Is it possible to make the gr as good as the mivec version by doing a mods? how much will it cost extra?
Are gpx ver more to insure or same as gr
Is the gpx power to weight ratio rule in australia for a p-plater allowed or is only the gr?
Which would you recommend for p plater
I want my fto to sound really good and look really good, speed is not so much of a factor at the moment since it will be my first car =] Possible make a gr sound as good as the gpx with low cash?
Cause its kinda a choice between a white mivec stock or a black one sunroof, sound system dvd/mp3 gr Very similar pricing
I dont know conditions though yet
Dont be shy for laying out the information! i'm going read every bit of it !
I'm not the bestest driver either =P~~~
Thanks guys in advance
FTO GPX or GR Noobie question =]

hey bud u cant get a gr non mivec to sound the same because as soon as u hit 6000 rpm in a mivec the noise is great it screams for more power, this u will never get in a non mivec gr and bud it is all up to what u wanna do down the line to your car because if u buy a gr non mivec they are easier to turbo than a gpx
but hey it is up to you bud and what u wanna drive every day i got a red 95 gpx tip and i love it

as far as insurance goes it should be the same, they're both 2L V6 engines so i can't see why they would be any different.
the pickup is better in a GPX model since it has MIVEC. i think it's 20Hp ATW difference.
the GR model will still sound awsome with an exhaust system installed, as would any car. but like 'nvr2low' said the GPX does have a roar to it when MIVEC kicks in at 5.5k revs.
hope that info helps.

Yeah may not sound the same but that doesnt mean a non mivec sounds worse than a mivec just different.nvr2low wrote:hey bud you cant get a gr non mivec to sound the same because as soon as you hit 6000 rpm in a mivec the noise is great it screams for more power, this you will never get in a non mivec gr and bud it is all up to what you wanna do down the line to your car because if you buy a gr non mivec they are easier to turbo than a gpx

Insurance dont know in your state but should be the same
If you plan on doing a lot of mods with a lot of cash i would recommend gr, if you want a drive away package and dont plan on going crazy go gpx.
Manual or Tip.......mmmmm, thats a toughy. I used to be a "boy racer" (sorry kiwi term), and i wouldnt own anything but manuals but now in my older yrs i love my tip and wouldnt ever go back to a manual.
i would consider this if i was young and deciding between the two, do you have to deal with slow moving traffic, if the answer is yes get a tip and you will love it, if No get a manual and you will love it. in sayin that take each for a drive and see what you perfer the answer will come to you very quickly

Hope that helps

mivec manual.....
with a pod filter, CAI, and exhaust.... you'll wet your pant everytime you hear that 6,000rpm MIVEC screamer...
I own a GPX with a turbo GR engine... and i can tell you if it wasnt for my lumpy as fcuk idle, the GPX would dominate... they get a whole nother set of legs at 6k...
go to the next cruise in your area... go for a spin in both...

guys i admitt i used to think the same about gpx and gr's... however in my past i have owned 2 GR models. my first being a 95 version manual - i did some quick mods eg... pod filter exhaust and fair enough it sounded great.... however..... I ended up selling that car and eventually bought a 96 face lift version, and the only mod on it was cold air induction... The freaky thing was the day i bought it i took it for a flog and almost messed my pants as soon as i hit around 5-6K.. All of a sudden a LOUD deep raw came from under the bonet (sounding like a V8) and i was pushed back in my seat.. I quickly checked under the bonet to see if i had maybe bought a mivec version however it was truly a GR... And i know people are goign to disagree with me but the only races i have had were against another GR and a GPX model... I beat the GR model by about 1-2 car lengths and the GPX by about half a car... BEST race of my life... Nothing better than two cars screaming down the street.... Anyway people can say what they want but honestly man I love the sound of my car when it hits high revs - it turns faces and pops questions... And it is a GR model, I would not trade in for another engine - because in truth all cars are different (even with the same engine) ........ laters

They are both FTO's - I wouldnt say either one is better than the other. If you're really unsure - do what we did and buy one of each!!!! Over the years we've had them - we've been on many spirited cruises and a lot of it comes down to the driver.
I did buy the GPX for the sound - but after we put in a new exhaust and CAI in the GR - it sounds better.
Drive them both and buy the one that YOU like - you'll have to live with it.
If you're a P-Plater - be ready and be sitting down when you get the insurance quotes - there's a thread about it here somewhere.
Also -don't go to Mitsi's to get it fixed - they'll rip you off - if you need parts - talk the guys on here with the CAPS program (tells you equivalent part numbers from different models - eg Magna/ Lancer etc)
Good luck! Good choice of car.
Cheers

These days though we prefer the GR manual (and will shortly
be selling the GPX tip- after switching the sound systems over!!!!).

This is my first experience with MIVEC and i love it.
Coming from a background of turbos including some very high powered WRX's and Skylines, to be honest, i'd rather the FTO anyday.
It's quick, nimble, comfortable, great to look at, has all the feautures you could possibly want or need and to top it off it sounds absolutely amazing when the MIVEC kicks in.
When i went to look at the car it was standard and i was apprehensive about buying it thinking it wouldn't satisfy me. But, after driving it and hearing the MIVEC, i spun around, did it again and giggled all the way back to the guys house and planted the cash on him.
And, after all this time, i still get the same feeling.
Granted it has a CAI, pod filter and 5Zigen Exhaust now, it just makes me enjoy it more.
I normally get tired of the cars i buy and sell them after a few months but i haven't even considered that with this car (well, i did to buy a Version R but changed my mind, still an FTO).
That says a lot.
You would think i was talking about a Ferrari and not a $13000 FTO wouldn't you !!! LOL.
