Full outside respray costs?

Post by oodLes »

I'm considering giving mine a full outside respray in the same colour it is now (Midnight blue). Anyone know of some rough estimates of what this would be? If its around the 1k mark I may as well get a new front bar and remove the rear spoiler as well.

My brother is getting a close door respray on his integra and he sanded it all back and primed it and he got a quote for $5000... But thats just rediculous, he is hoping for 1.5-2k.

Yeh I'm also getting some paint work done so considering a respray. No idea on price. I'm jealous of the midnight blue, thats the colour I was after but I guess I'm stuck with white cause theres no way Im doing a complete colour change (that costs a bomb from what I've heard).

I got quoted $5000 for this airbrush job (including another mural on other side and bonet) plus a complete respray with candy apple red.. 3 coats of clear.. chrome headlight surrounds and centre console. and I was wondering if THAT was too expensive!

Well I'd imagine with a complete colour change they have to strip absolutely everything out then put it all back after they respray it. No wonder it costs so much.

Reason I want to respray it is after looking at super clean versions of that colour it really does look very good when almost new. I saw this car in the for sale section:

and thats similar to how I would like to see mine.

Yes... its octane art in Cairns. Husband/Wife team... they've done some pretty amazing work. There work is the only spectacular part of the lame car show's we have up here. Thanks for reassuring me about the quote we didn't really have a clue. He seemed keen to be involved with the art work we'd chosen.. a bit of an advertisement for him he said... which works out well for both of us. Here's their link...

For just a respray you should be looking at around the $2500 mark, but you will definitly find more expensive and you will definitly find cheaper. After getting mine painted i think these are the things you should be asking yourself and keeping in mind

1) Dont choose a painter on price choose on REPUTATION ONLY.
2) Have you thought about your roof bubbling?
3) Why only a respay save up another grand or 2 and do something that will blow yow you away every time you look at it.
4) Yes definitly look at things like body kits, shave spoilers, door locks, boot locks, handles (if your into that, i wasnt), changing mirrors, wide body kits etc, cause you might aswell plan that sh*t first you dont want to get 6 months down the track and go i wish i had of thought of that :D
5) Atleast 4 coats of clear and no less (that is a must)

Thats all i can think of now :D

Thanks for the (actually) useful reply mate.

I don't particularly want to kit out the thing, so at the moment the stock bar is going to do me fine. Shes getting lowered soon as well so it should be fine.

OH dude and i forgot to tell you... DONT LEAVE THE PAINTERS UNTIL YOU GO OVER THE CAR COMPLETELY TO ENSURE NOTHING HAS BEEN MISSED AND IS UP TO YOUR STANDARD.

open doors, boots, bonnet, fuel cap, etc use your hands to feel along the body aswell.

+1 good info mate ..

I also have to expand on your other post;
GO THERE AROUND MIDDAY WITH FULL SUNLIGHT - Don't inspect it on an overcast day ..

Spend as long as it takes inspecting it until you feel completely satisfied

I wonder if you could get them to repaint it if you're not happy with the quality of the airbrush artwork?

absolutly, if you have not recieved what was paid for then yes. Its a matter of sticking up for yourself, most ppl just cant be bothered and put up with sub standard work or just dont know their rights as a consumer

definitely inspect it thoroughly before you let it out of the shop!

i resprayed my last car in two tone purple over silver, and i was stoked just to get it back in my hands.
few weeks later i noticed there was a small hair under the clearcoat, so i checked it all over. heavy overspray down the bottom of the sills under the doors, more hairs under clearcoat, and airbubbles from where they hadnt prepared old crows feet properly.
$4500 down the drain.

Why didnt you take it back. that is obviously not what you paid for and is unsatisfactory workmanship. I took my car 5 times just for the roof only, over a period of a year and they had no choice but to keep trying till it was right
