Head unit wont turn off?

tonight while i was out driving i managed to break my cig lighter socket (but thats a different story, to do with my GPS cahrge adapter)

anyway while i had the whole stereo surround out to try and fix it something has happened to the head unit and now whenever i turn the car off and take the keys out it stays on and continues to play music.

what have i done? can someone please help me??

the accessories wire came loose, which acts as a switch when you turn the key to accessories

easy fic your in luck lol if this is the problem there is a amp wire/current wire that wires in if u have amps etc that turns em off when the car turns off so i assume its something simmilar with the head unit youve yanked the wire that probly connects to the ignition that tells the head unit whethere to turn off or stay on.

does this mean i have to take out the whole hadunit to fix it.

oh and i forgot to mention that it acts the opposite when i turn the car on, the headunit stays switched off until turned on manually.

Does your deck lose the settings that have been programmed into it as well?

If so, I'd say the accessory wire and the direct +ve wire are the wrong way around.

If not, then you have direct +ve running to both connections.

When wired correctly, one of the wires is a permanent connection to the battery which retains the settings memory when the ignition is off. The other runs to the accessory circuit to tell the unit when to be switched on or off. i.e. when the accessory circuit goes live by turning the key, the deck senses this and turns on.

You can check these with a multimeter or test light...

Have you tried the basics ??? Check your accessory fuse which powers the cig lighter ???

I had a CB (back in the day) that did weird and wonderful things to my Ford. The car would turn off, but radio remained on ... So the temporary solution was to turn the radio off manually... Then obviously when you start the car, the radio is still off, so you switch it on .... And again when the car is shut off, the radio remains.

I would say that when you have broken the cig lighter with the GPS, it has shorted out the circuit, and just blown a fuse.... No biggy ... If this is not the case, then go through and check all your wiring ... It could be possible that you have also pinched a wire when putting everything back together, and that could of blown the fuse also ...

thanks for the help guys. i will the check the fuses as soon as i get the chance.

and as for the wires being connected wrong, well that just isn't possible because it has been working fine up until last night and when i saw that it wasn't working i just left it to be dealt with another day.

basically my GPS plug sticks out about 10 cm so when i put it into 1st gear it almost touches it. anyway while i was stopped at the lights i went to put it into gear and slammed the gearstick into the GPS plug and the whole lighter socket fell into it's 3 pieces and now it wont work either.

If the lighter ain't working I say that just confirmed fuse ... But anywho ... I know how you feel ... The dame happens to me when I put mine in ... And charge my mobile phone... It really hurts when you smash your finger into it ....

I found in my car, that someone had wired up a dual adapter to the cig lighter. So I have 3 sockets...

2 are hidden under the plast thing in the centre consol where the CD stacker is ... So I use that now ...

just checked the fuses and..........it was broken after all. ended up being the fuse for the cigarette lighter.

reoplaced it and now everything works ok.

i'm just stumped as to how that would affect the stereo since it runs off a seperate fuse in the engine bay?
