Racecourse Motors
Hi All,
Has anyone on this forum bought a car from Racecourse Motors? I am really keen to hear your expieriences.
I have put a deposit on a 1996 Black FTO GPX. It is heading in for compliancing on the 7th of Jan and if all goes well, i will be able to pick it up on the 12th. Details are below:
http://www.drive.com.au/used-cars/MITSU ... 82586&pt=1
It comes with a full years rego and 3 years full parts and labour warranty. Its a beautiful car and i can't wait to pick it up.
The guy that i dealt with, was great. He was very helpful and honest. This was a big difference from some other companies that i have dealt with. He gave me the auction report and it all looked good. I work for a large company with offices around the world, so i sent the report to a mate in Japan to check. He said that everything checked out.
So if anyone wants to share expieriences about buying from Racecourse Motors or their subsequent expierience with the warranty, i would love it hear it. If there are any negative expieriences, it would probably be best to PM me.
Overall, i am very happy with my expieriences so far and would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for an FTO.

Thats great to hear mate. They have very reasonable prices for servicing and thats where i will be going to get the car serviced.Obis wrote:I havent bought a car from them however I use to take my 95' Renault 19 (not a whole heap around) to them for servicing and they got the job done right without any problems. This was in 2004 I was living on the corner of botany st and alison rd so it was nice and close also.
Hope this helps??

The owner is a top bloke and he used to race FTO's. He has a wealth of information and is very helpful.
Cheers for your post.

Yeah, he has a nice black auto GPvR and a white manual GPvR. Bit out of my budget. They look very good though.Obis wrote:Ive been eyeing off those same FTOs hahaha .. I expect to be buying in mid Feb.. I'll be checking on racecourse a litlle closer to then also.
cheers

The thing that really did it for me was talking to the owner and also the 3 year warranty.

Ah ok, thanks for the heads up.topao wrote:With your 3 year warranty theres 5 different options with it i think, try to get the better option which is A, they gave me option D which wasnt all that
Overall, how was your expierience with them? How is the car. Did everything check out? Did you an inspection.
Sorry it annoy you with all these questions, but i am getting a little paranoid. Have been through 3 dud FTO's before i got to this one. Don't want this one to be a lemon as well.
Thanks

My partners FTO came from Racecourse (White & Blue 95 GR) and we've had no problems with it (mine came from another dealer)
Gav (another member) also got his car from them as well (from memory) and I don't think he had any major issues
Get it checked before you buy it though - if the Cam seals are leaking (fairly common problem)- get it fixed under warranty and you'll save yourself a bundle.
Great choice of car - and I hope it works out well for you. I had mine bought in back in early 2003 - when I put her up for sale in the next few months it will be a sad time........ lucky I have his instead now!!
I have had one negative experience with Racecourse, a PM has been sent to you with the full details- it did NOT involve the quality of their cars or servicing of cars.

Thanks very much for your comments. I have replied to your PM.
It is a great choice of car. I wanted one during my time at uni but couldn't afford it. Now i can and i am just counting down the days. Its sad that you have to let your one go. Never know what the future brings.
Thanks for the info on the Cam Seals. I will be getting a State Roads inspection regardless. It offers great piece of mind.
Thanks once again for your post.

I was going to buy a car off these guys but the owner of this place said he wanted another 1K on top of the advertised price because it was in "better condition than he expected". On top of that, there was a ding in the rear quarter panel which was not mentioned in the ad. Not a good way to do business in my opinion.
Other than that, i have no problems with this place.

Thats sad to hear. The guy i dealt with, was very up front about price and the car. This car also had a dent but he pointed it out to me, gave me the auction report and showed me what had happened to the car and where.
If you don't mind me asking, how long ago did you speak to them about a car? As i mentioned, the one i have put a deposit on had a dent on the right rear quarter panel. This has been fixed. This was also indicated on the auction report, along with the fact that the bonnet and the front right quarter panels were replaced. The repairs look very good. Had a look at it all, and he even hoisted the car for me so that i could get a look underneath.
Thanks

Your comments fill me with some more confidence. Definitely isn't 8 speakers but i am not worried. Going to be replacing them soon enough anyway.brimstone wrote:i got mine from here too and they were great to deal with, was almost exactly the same as yours. i noticed the description said "8 speaker" which wouldnt be right with that stock stereo..... they also aranged an immobiliser to be fitted as part of compliancing which was a big help.

I only spoke to them twice.Greg_Kumar wrote: Hi Mate,

Thanks
first time was confirming the price and the estimated time of arrival from japan
second time was a test drive followed by price negotiation in which i then found out that he wanted more money then advertised, plus he wanted me to pay for the repair of the dent caused during transport.
Also at that time he was only offering 3 months warranty, so i decided to take my money elsewhere.
