A few years ago I went to a Bose demo and was very impressed, fell in love with them then, my wallet is yet to do the same.
You're probably right.. only suggested it cause I thought you were having a PC as part of the system..
As I've said, I know nothing when it comes to Home Entertainment System speakers etc.. as far as I knew, all an Amp did in a HES was give you more channels, multiple inputs/outputs & in more advanced Amps, to give you more control over how sound comes out of each speaker etc etc..
I'm gonna go out on a limb here & say that you don't need an extra Amp to drive the computer speakers if you're running them off a computer .. I could be massively wrong though, I've just never heard of it .. As for linking computer speakers in with a PS3 / TV / DVD Player etc all off the one computer system, yes, you're probably right about needing an external amp or something .. honestly I have no idea - I'm interested to find out if anyone knows?
Your right in saying that if I was running the speakers off the computer, I wouldn't need an additional amp, but getting the signal to those speakers from all the different sources is the hardest part... each one you pass the signal through takes a little bit of quality away, and do all of these connect with each other? I'd be happy (ish) to run it without the computer if I could and the computer is the last thing on my shoppung list. Looking at Feb for that.
In an ideal world, I want to be able to walk in to the house, press one or two buttons and my favourite playlist comes blasting out or movie comes on the big screen in glorious surround sound. I don't want to look around for discs or spend ages searching through my cds for that one song that I just have to here because someone mentioned it earlier. You know? Does that make sense?
It has wicked sound and puts you right in the movie. At the moment the wires are a bit all over the place but it fits in really well with the TV and the room. I’m just waiting on the PS3 before fully connecting it all properly. I need to get some speaker stands, HDMI leads, optical leads and am going to have to get the vertical stand for the PS3 because the amp if fooking massive. I’ve seen packs where you get extra controller, stand, fan, HDMI etc so I’ll grab one of them.
PS3 was waiting for me when I got back from Coffs. I've just been using the RCA leads it comes with but am buying the HDMI leads tonight. I found space for it so don't need the vertical stand or fans.
After speaking with Sony I'm going to link it all together with HDMI leads as optical doesn't support more than 5.1 (so they say).
I've bought NFS Pro Street, F.E.A.R as my first games and Casino Royal and Die Hard 4.0 as my first Blu-rays.
I did mention about 5.1 going through optical only and nothing more. Your amp is only 5.1 anyway so HDMI won't make a difference sound wise it will reduce cable clutter though. FEAR is garbage on the PS3 I returned it after one day it was so bad. HMDI must be used if you want DTS HD Master audio or Dolby True HD but your amp doesn't support that so no worries there.
Ah missed that (or forgot) cheers. AMP is 6.1 but I'm only running 5.1 as nothing is avaialble in any more than that at the moment. (well, not much anyway).
Using HDMI will mean that when I turn either my TV or AMP on, the other will turn on too. This will NOT work with the PS though.
DD EX and DTS ES will work through optical also (my bad) but very small amount of content. I can only think of a couple of titles off the top of my head.
