Pod Air Filter

Post by harry90 »

Can anyone verify for me what this actually does ? ( i know it sounds like a stupid question)...is this a performance upgrade ? Does it make much difference to the noise of the car ? Is it legal for a red p plater to upgrade the stock air box to one of these ?

This may have been covered before...BUT i DID search...

no improvement in performance if its still in engine bay, illegal because they arent enclosed, they do improve engine sound in my opinion, dont know what everyone else reckons

Air filters are one of the best ways to get more power in a NA car its also one of the cheapest ways.
they do have a "sucking in" sound and yes Cops can defect you but damn $200 bucks for that!! Ouch

it is illegal ? whether or not you are a p plater ? or just all up illegal ? what is the point if it is illegal and doesnt make much difference ? could i lose my license for getting this ? or just defected (can get rid of defects) ?

you can put one on as long as it is in a box, it will give you about 3kws, you wont lose your License and yes you can get a defect tacken off your car you just have to change/fix the defect and get it inspected and away you go again well after you pay some money for all of that any way :?

POD's are illegal for anyone if they're not in an enclosed air box - we had a box made (for the white car) with an intake pipe from the front.
http://www.motorsportprivateer.com.au/p ... mtg_item=6 (top left photo)

If you're going to put a POD in, also check your exhaust out - too much air and the car can run lean and help your engine to wear out quicker.

In my car (black one) putting on the POD and the exhaust gave me a small increase in power and evened out the dip when the MIVEC kicks in - graph is still probably floating around on the Unique Autosports website somewhere

i already have a sports muffler which was the first thing i did to the car when i got it....does that make much difference (also a 4" tip) ? where could i buy a decent one ? any links ? cos i've been looking on ebay...but i have no idea with these things. Also i am not sure if they are p plate legal, not literally putting it on...but as it affects performance ? i am not sure...

as for the defect...i didnt mean can you get rid of it... i meant i know someone who can get rid of it for me (without paying/changing the setup of car) ! But what i was trying to say with the license thing...was that with red p platers (i think) you cannot have performance upgrades to the car (which i believe i can lose license for) thats why i wanna make sure.

ok
I am not a 100% on the laws for P's but you should be right with the CAI put on as long as its boxed.
your best bet to get one would be to go to a good mechanic and get them to make one up for you and a box as well should set you back any thing from $150-$300 pending on what they use to make it up.

We had the white car done as a custom job (can't remember exactly when- sometime in 2002) at Hills Motorsports
Mark, Phone: (02) 9899 9962
Address:
Unit D6,2A Victoria Ave
Castle Hill NSW 2154

Don't know what they're like these days as we haven't been there in years (now I feel old  )

UAS have a version, but its only a plastic semi-box- but its done ok in the black one all this time

and for the P plate thing - no idea sorry :? maybe ring the RTA and ask?

Cheers

you know what the stupid thing is, i came over to aus with a kiwi restricted licence, went and paid for my equivalancy (which would be green p's) and got a aussie full simply because its not defined in the rules that the licence you get is equivilant to your own countries.... no eye test, written, oral or practical test.

god bless australia!
if theres a 'loop' hole, ill f**k it

"Modifications that increase engine performance." are restricted on P plates... I see plenty of P platers with pod's. Does it mean that exhausts are defectable?

i honestly have no idea...thats why i posted..i guess if a cop is searching your car...its easier to talk your way out of a defect for an exaust...then when they open your bonnet and see a pod... cops are lazy... unless they really wanna f@^k you, they are not gonna bother crouching down checking your muffler..just tell them you changed the tip for looks...opposed to when they ask you to open your bonnet and see a pod...which as another person confirmed here...does add 3kw or so to power of the car...which in fact is engine performance upgrade. Cant really talk your way out of that cos its there...and as a p plater you are meant to know the laws that apply to you(according to the police's).
