mr-charisma wrote:I was wondering when they would start doing this... I've heard about them getting around in less conspicuous cars like lancers / ford focus etc, but RX8 & Ricelines? Sounds to me like they're just gonna be out taunting people into racing them & then taking their cars .. does anyone else realise that by having the punishment for 'hooning' as getting your car taken away they're encouraging people to run from the cops? YAY FOR HIGH SPEED PURSUITS!!
I've also heard that they're going to be adding Vans as speed camera vehicles again so that people will just mistake them for Tradey vans.. so be on the lookout - they won't all be 4WD's anymore.. now we can have more people slamming their brakes on every time they see a VAN on the side of the road... YAY FOR TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS!!
Man on the goldie they having been using MERCEDES vans for speed cameras for well over 8mnths. So thats why the QLD police force cant afford a helicopter

Thank god for that! I would rather they spend the dollars on speed cameras rather than a helicopter I hope they are never able to scrape together the dollars for one

In Vic, i've seen Kingswood, Hyundai 4WD, Corolla......

We all know Ricelines are money pits, presumably VL turbos and the rest are the same... wonder how they justify spendin all that taxpayer money.
Thats the thing, cop most likely target Jap and Aussie cars, while 90% of Euro and Exotic cars get away with it. Where i use to work i see Lamo, Ferrari and Porsche hooning all the time and where are the cops? Down the road waiting for cars that coming out of Autosalon and getting ready to defect them whether they done anything or not.

Hoon laws are at the discretion of the Police ... Well that is the case in NSW ...
I know this from experience ...
I took off quickly from a set of lights ... My mate next to me followed... I accelerated to the speed limit and backed off, and so did he as it was a double demerit weekend (think it was 80ks on the highway) Cop pulled both of us over...
Told us to pack up our stuff, as the cars were getting impounded ... He then asked which one of us did a burnout ... We both replied neither of us ... He did not like that answer and stated it was one of us, because he heard it .... He then said we were speeding, but when asked what we were clocked at (he had no speed gun) he would not answer ... There was a whole heap of sh*t that went down, and even in the cops statement of facts, the had "We noticed black smoke coming from the rear and tyres of my car" ... Well the car was turbo, but it was FWD ...
They stated my friend and I were revving our engines at the lights (lie, my friends car was auto too... So if he were doing that, the car would have been in neutral, and would be silly if we were going to race) ... They stated they were 1 car behind us in their statement, but when pulled over they stated "Bet you didn't see us 2 cars back" ...
Anyway, the car was taken for almost the full 3 months before we had our time in court... Long story short the cops did not do everything by the book, and the matter was thrown out cause the court had "no jurisdiction to hear the case" ... So I was out of place my Solicitor fee's, my $8 a day for the car to be stored + the towing to the holding yard (was on a public holiday), and I could not sue the cops for costs as we were not found guilty or innocent ...
thank god for camera phones have the passanger record what the cop car is doing taunting you than get them friken prosecuted or something disciplinary action. I was on bell st (road in victoria 5lanes per side of tje road wide 70 km/h speed zone) i was at subway finished eating went in to my car and noticeda cop flying past me cahnged from his far left lane to his right with signaling once i thought hewas on the phone the lights ahead were orange he did his siren and went through them then turne it off wtf?
It's a load of crap. Really winds me up. I've had that where cops have said that I wheel spun away from the lights. That's BS! I also got told to take my BOV off (Wish I had one.) I got told "You better get out of here and be home in 10 minutes, and we will check.." even though I was 30 minutes away from home.
One time, in the uk, I was late for work in the morning and was speeding and I did race away from the lights and there was 2 trail bikes next to me. I pulled way ahead of them and they caught up at the next lights. I pulled away again and lost them for a while. 5 minutes from work I got pulled over by the equivalent of a Falcon with all the lights, two tones, 10 ariels etc. I got out of my car and walked up to him and he didn't say anything. He just stood looking at me for a few minutes with a smirk on his face. Next thing the 2 bikes pull up. They walk over and flash their badges. Bugger
They accuse me of wheel spinning from every set of lights (not true) and asked me how fast I was going. I said "70" as this was the limit (MPH) they said "Bull sh*t, these bikes do 80 flat out and you where pulling away like no tomorrow." so I said "well, maybe 85 then." They tell me that their bikes don't have recording equipment and are not calibrated so they are going to speak to their sup. and get in contact. I never heard anything. But a few weeks later I saw them at Maccers. They where sat out side eating and I came out of the drive through. I spotted their bikes first and then saw them. I looked at them and they looked at me and one of them game me the finger. Cheeky bastards.
I also know someone who was on his R1 at like 3am in the morning and a cop bike pulled up next to him at the lights. The road they where on was dead straight but had loads of sets of lights, that, if you floored it and didn’t stop, you’d be able to make them all as they turn to orange, like in Meet the Parents.
The cop said to him, how fast do you recon you need to go to make all of them in one go. My mate said “0-100 in about 4.5 seconds and don’t stop.â€
Wow so fecking *~delightful!~*... a lot of this is ridiculous, but what can we do ? So basically, if a cop is in a bad mood, see's a car he doesn't like. Go up, taunt it, and if it takes off fast-ish...impound it under the reason of wheelspinning etc and you lose your ride for a couple of months most likely based on what they say ? Justice indeed...
Think it's time to remove my mps badge...now i'll just look like any other normal mazda 3 to the untrained eye...
If the cop says you were 'accelerating in an unnecessary way', even if you stay below the speedlimit, with no recording equpiment, he can still do you.
His judgement on your accelleration rate? Pfft. His word is gospel according to the courts. Say it with me: "Police State".
I'm not saying that there doesn't need to be a clamp down on idiots on the roads, and there are some very dodgy cars about. But how far do they want to take it?
And I'm not saying that there arn't decent policemen out there - I just know I've come across more than a few that were the other end of the scale.
If you can't dazzle them with dexterity, baffle them with bull...
Well with the current talk of them having the ability to rush your car I'm considering installing a camera onto the C pillar overlooking the road and the drivers window, just so if I get pulled by one having a bad day I don't end up with a 2 by 3 metre brick at my feet.
I've seen this work for other people, like a guy in the US who was consistently harassed by the police.

but then you have consider privacy laws
you'll have to put a sign on your car stating "you are being recorded"
Cops have a job to do, i do understand that...... but what i dont understand is how inconsistent they are and why they just target speed. Speed is only one contributing factor, idiotic driving another eg truck drivers driving 30+ hrs straight and falling asleep at the wheel or just swerving into other lanes etc.
OK get this, comin back from indy (in a commodore), gf's father driving, enters 90km area doing 125km, accelerated to 140km, cops pull up right behind and flash lights (im thinking say good bye to your license) Father gets out of car and stumbles (he had not been drinkin though). The car is overloaded ie four ppl in the back, 4 cops hop out sucking lollipops (WTF). One cop looks at how low the back of the car is and i hear her say car is overloaded any the wheel is touching the arch. 2 mins later father jumps back in car and drives off. Im like wtf, what did they say "take it easy". What what what..... if that was me im be in court by now. They didnt even check his breathe alcohol level or give him speeding ticking.
At the end of the day boys are gonna be boys.....
SO TO THE GOVERMENT OF AUSTRALIA........... START THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX AND GIVE US SOMEWHERE TO RACE, BURNOUTS AND DRIFT AND THEN WE WILL NOT DO IT ON THE STREETS. WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN DOING SO FAR HAS NOT WORKED SO F&^KEN WAKE UP

they're never gonna wake up, they've been running on subconcsious autopilot since all our cars were built
that surveillance camera idea sounds the goods, how would that work? what would you need, and where would you get the gear from?
i've been pulled up 6 times in the last month, and i'm getting ready to flog the sh*t out of someone/ something.
my old purple/ silver VN 5 litre didn't get this much F*cking attention
They'll be able able to get their helicopters and other equipment, all the stuff they've bought so far is a positive investment as long as enthusiasts and hoons are on the roads.
But thats it. They need to be able to distingush between hoons and enthusiast cause theres a difference.

Wood I was just thinking about a very cheap video camera spliced in with a switch at the front under the steering column somewhere. Its either that or what I'll be doing from now on which is sitting my phone in video record mode on the dash facing the drivers window if I get pulled.
Yeah I don't know...
I've never been pulled apart from the odd RBT.
I'd expect a lot of it is attitude... if you aren't doing something you shouldn't, I'd really hope that they'd leave you be.
But I'm sure some of you would disagree and say that sometimes they're just assholes for the point of it.
Either way... I know some of you will line up against other people at the lights no matter what other people say... just make sure you've had a look in the car that you're lined up against and make sure they aren't wearin a f*ckin uniform!
But either way, they'll get ya sooner or later
I've been pulled twice for 15k and under (not in an FTO however) and only for roadside Breathtests otherwise.
However, I have been tailgated by road patrols many many times, often so closely that I can't see their headlights. I'm not willing to bet that these particular ones are fair and just.
I've been wanting to put a few camera's in my car for a while.. at least one on the dash & one on the rear parcel shelf to record people tailgating/ doing stupid things etc in case they run into me., but having one mounted at the little triangular window at the back that could record out the side would be cool too, especially if I could hook a sound recorder into it as well to record these types of convo's if I am pulled over by a cop having a bad day or someone with road rage pulled up next to me or something
And one mounted on the dash to film the inside of the car in case someone breaks into my car..
Would need a car computer at the very least.. & a large enough hard drive to record to.. in shock resistant mounts.. or a UMPC with SSD
some motion detectors etc so its only recording when somethings happening .. decent camera's - spy shop is probably the place to go. Could hack some motion detectors in the outdoor lights rather than pay for some expensive off the shelf ones..
