Crunching noise at ~1400-1600rpm in any gear
Hey guys,
Just noticed a kind of crunchy noise coming from the engine bay at around 1500rpm and can feel it through the clutch pedal. It's not very loud and you can't hear it if your stereo is at normal volume. It only happens when the car is in gear but if it's above and below that rpm range it goes away. I tried it with up to 4th gear and it can be reproduced every time.
Any ideas?

Just an update in case some people experience the same issues in the future...
The third place I took the car to was Unique Auto Sports in Seven Hills. We took it for a spin and they are very confident that it's chatter noise caused by the flywheel. They couldn't give me an exact price since they'd have to take things apart to confirm their suspicions.
As a rough guide they did mention that for an S15, a new flywheel is around $1500.
I was just wondering if it's indeed the flywheel that needs replacing...how much $$ is it to replace including labour? I just don't want to get ripped off.
Cheers.

he said the $1500 was for the s15s flywheel not an Ftos... no idea what the difference is though.
I had some minor groaning awhile ago at ~1500 rpm. when it was at RPW getting some things done to the gearbox they found a bearing and replaced it and its been quieter since (at 1500)... no more groaning. it wasnt reaaally a crunching noise though... not like when you dont have enough oil in the gearbox or clutch to get it into gear properly

Hey guys. Sorry about the late reply...didn't have a computer for a couple of weeks.
I took the car to a gearbox specialist and they said that it's not a problem as such other than being an annoyance if the sound bothers you (as long as it doesn't get worse/louder over time). They believe the noise is caused by the clutch. They also said that it should be nowhere near $1500 to replace (to be fair, that price was for an S15 flywheel not an fto clutch). After that I took it back to the dealer. They will replace the clutch under warranty if it indeed gets worse in the coming weeks.
At the moment I'm not willing to fork out $$ for a new clutch and I have it covered under warranty for nearly 2yrs still, so I'll wait and see how it goes.
