Something I just found out... Nortons has 42,000 viruses in its list, whereas McAfee Virusscan has 45,000, hence why McAfee picked up the extras that Nortons missed when I installed it.

Ive just been hit by my doom worm 3 times in the last 3 days! Thanx to pc-cillin no infection from the virus

$23 very well spent.

Well, after doing some more research into this (and you know how thorough my research is

) I have found a number of websites that independantly test anti-virus software on a regular basis, and which set the benchmark standards.

Based on these websites, and also a lot of user feedback that I have read, it appears that the best anti-virus on the market at the moment is Nod32 by Eset (go to http://www.nod32.com.au )

Interestingly, although Nortons is the most popular anti-virus, it has failed more tests, and since the 2004 version has been released has been receiving a lot of criticism, particularly from those using it, but also from within the industry.

It's also interesting to note, that on some of these tests Symantec (owner of Nortons) only provides their corporate product for testing, not their home product. Yet it is their home product that is the most popular and well known. Perhaps there is a reason they don't want it tested

Scracy, I hate to point it out, but out of the Virus Bulletin tests, the AVG anti-virus (Grisoft) has only passed 3 and failed 20! And when it comes to the Check-Mark certification, it has not passed at all.

Of all the research I've done, the following two websites are considered the best and most important for testing anti-virus software and for setting the benchmark. It is very interesting who has passed and who has failed (and how many times), and who has the Check-Mark LEVEL 2 certification and who doesn't.

funny though', i've been using Norton for the past 24mths yet I have had no virus issues whatsoever *touchwood & fingers crossed*.

I was the same Mikey, until they released the 2004 version. It was only then that I started looking due to all the issues. I ended up opening a pandoras box!

It will also be interesting to know, when you do upgrade, and do a complete virus scan, how many viruses are picked up that weren't picked up by Nortons. I have read a LOT of messages about this happening, and people who thought they were well protected, until they tried something better. As I mentioned before, this also happened to me. I thought I was safe with Nortons, until I tried a different anti-virus program.

Same here although I've been using Norton's for only about a year.. have never updated it and have never had a virus kill anything *knocks on wood til knuckles bleed* I have had downloaded virus's but Norton's has always picked up on them and kicked their ass like that guy I smashed trying to break into that car ages ago.. oops thats from a different thread isn't it...

Well i've also heard from customers that Norton 2004 isn't "user friendly" as 2003, so i've stock more 2003 then 2004, but that makes me wonder why 2003 still available from distributor?

I still use 2003 in all my machine, so i can't tell any different from 2004 yet. But I will get this Nod32 in, & give it a go.

BTW ppl i stock PC Cillin, Vet, & Norton, so if u guys ever need anti-virus or any computer stuff just give me a bell, or drop by

LOL! im using PC Cillin 2002 with real time updating, and i gotta say i'd say its one of the best virus scanners around. Also i dont like norton very much... it becomes rather annoying
