is there a sure way to know if you have an lsd.
my car was on a hoist yesterday and when i tuened a front wheel they both spun..

any other things to look for?

Are they spinning in different directions or the same direction? I think (though don't quote me) LSDs spin the wheels in the same direction when you spin them while they are off the ground.

Another way is to do a burnout and see if one or two tyres smoke. But you don't do it that way because thats illegal

it's actually the other way around.

an LSD will spin the wheels in different directions when one wheel is spun manually.

its a 96 black gpx.

i have accidentally done a little burn out.. i forgot i put it into neutral at lights went to go realised its in neutral dropped it in drive.. opps. left 2 black lines.

Burnout trick doesnt work... I leave double leggers everywhere...

Not quite mate, wheels should spin the same direction. A normal diff will see them going different directions - hence the term full slip diff.

well i have an lsd just jacked the front up both the front wheels spin in the same direction at the same speed.

guess im lucky.. traction controll and lsd.. and vacuum gauge.. and rear wiper..

I ment i USED to leave double leggers...

Now i'd rather spend my hard earned on upgrades instead of tyres every week...

and quick question... since i've had my new clutch installed (Heavy Dty Organic) and my lightweight chomoloy Flywheel, when i jack up the front of the car and turn it on, both wheels start turning... No torque behind them (can stop them with my hands) but still get a little speed up...

This is with the Stick in neutral... when i hit the clutch, the wheels stop....

wtf???

Look at the second animation & click the straight & turning button. Looking at the turning on gives you the closest display of what happens when both wheel are off the ground. When both wheels are off, the other side actually spins the other way because of the way the cogs are setup... if that makes sense lol

Quite nornal mate, mine does it. Its the clutch - there is still a very light contact between it & the pressure plate even when in neutral - hence the spinning when wheels are off the ground. On the ground, the clutch contact isn't enough to move the car when not in gear. Its much more prevalent when the clutch is new.

Lsd were only standard on the GPvR and the Lim Ed versions. 500 of the Lim Ed, don't know how many vR were made.

If your's aren't any of those then who ever bought it installed them on afterwards or they added it as an additional part.

Rear wipers were an additional component as well.

check the vaccuum gauge, should tell you if your (rolling) on lsd

I've had a fair read of that site but am now more confused then ever.

For example with my car if I jack it up out of gear and engine off and turn a wheel the other wheel turns at the same rate. In gear engine off the other wheel will turn in the opposite direction at the same rate?!

Being a version R I would assume I would have an LSD and it does feel like it. I have driven other cars with LSD's including my laser that had a viscous diff in it and especially doing u-turns if you loaded it up mid corner it would turn sharper and pull harder at the wheel to pull straight. I blew that diff up and it is now an open diff and doesn't do this, I have to be smoother with power on as a consiquence but the FTO does what it used to do, it did it last night when I was on a cruise?!

Anybody got an idiots guide to diff's?

I seen somwere that there was 574 VR's made but that just dosnt sound right to me

but if any one knows how many there is I would love to know
