Photoshop is expensive...

Try the GIMP instead, or Paint.NET

http://www.gimp.org/

http://www.getpaint.net/index.html
LED ALL the things.

Yeah Photoshops a little expensive for home use 8O

If anyones familiar with photoshop and doesn't like GIMP ... I reccomend giving GIMPshop a try: http://www.gimpshop.com

It's quite nice but still not as good as Photoshop. However it's more then capable of doing pretty much anything you need doing... possibly just not as smoothly. Hell we've all seen the insanity that some people draw with MSPaint... and this is 1000 times better then MSPaint :P

The good news is it's FREEEEEE and GIMPshop is available for many different operating systems, including Mac OS X, Windows 98+, Linux, and Solaris.

In relation to this people, would you change your reccommendation for a vista PC?

Just a little concerned on putting non Vista approved stuff on, last time I did it it screwed up the hard drive of my then 2 week old NEC. 2 months later I finally got it back working ok.

I'd reccomend XP SP2 if you were running vista. ;)

I'm not going to reccomend anything for Vista, as I don't run it... cannot test how stable it will be or whether or not it will even work.

 Fair enough, not really an option though unfortunately. New Notebook came bundled with it, Guess I'll just have to wait till people fix the bugs. Thanks anyway Will.

Sorry, really don't know any other free apps :( Gimp is pretty much all I know other then photoshop... the licensing costs of Adobe products however... it's just insanity for someone looking for something to make a few images with.

Paint Shop Pro (PSP) was a half decent application. Not awesome by any means but would get most things done.

The bad news is Corel bought out JASC, makers of PSP... and now PSP is... Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2... looks more focused on digital photo manipulation. Would it get what you need done? No idea... You're looking at about $150+ however for the full version.

The trial: http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite? ... 9977215418

PSP used to be like $90... but it's no longer what it was, as far as I can tell. You could try the trial and see if it does what you want it to... no promises though, sorry. I stick to what I know.

Alternatively you could always dual boot your PC and install an easy to use linux distro such as Ubuntu, with its sexy new UI. Very tasty, quite easy to get to grips with... and use GIMPshop on that.

Hell I'd go 100% Linux if A) all the apps I wanted to use worked natively and B) I wasn't so lazy and happy with XP. I doubt I'll be treading near vista unless forced to by some application... not at home at any rate.
