New FTO owner-changing wheels question

Hi, just bought an 1996 gpx for my daughter, she loved the look so it was a no brainer for any other car...anyway now she wants to put new wheels on it. The car has 16" Simex tyres and we would like to know the best tyre & wheel package 17" you guys have got which are good lookn and safe. We live in Sydney western suburbs.- thank you and love the site! so helpful

If you can get it to tempe tyres, I'd recommend that. They have wheel and tyre packages to suit the FTO and they know their stuff.

Everyone on here will have their own opinion in regards to the best tyre choice.

I have Potenza GIII whcih I reckon is good for how i drive (like a granny) but also give me the grip i need when I give it a little.

yeah i agree go tempe tyres

ive got my last 3 sets of rims from there

i only just put 18s on the without a problem

Thank You - what brand of tyre did you choose for your 17s and will we need to get them fitted and aligned?

Tempe Tyres only stock Falken, Hankook, Pirelli, Nankang, Khumo, Nitto & Sumitomo

I would steer clear of the last 4 mentioned there altogether, leaving you with Falken, Hankook & Pirelli to choose from.

Pirelli are a fairly expensive top-of-the-line type tyre, so you'd be best picking a Falken or Hankook. Just dont get the Falken RT615's... they're rubbish & I gaurantee they'll try & hock you those with a package deal.

Sorry mate, I made a mistake - its not the Falken RT615's you have too look out for, its the Ziex 512s. The 615's are actually a semi slick!

Yeah didn't think the rt615s were crap...a lot of mazda owners swear by them...reckon it changed their car and everything. I'm actually considering a set of rt615s as my next tire.

Why not just get some Volk wheel copies for pretty darn cheap and slap some Yokohama A.drive R1s on them ? Before i got rid of my fto, i was using A.Drive R1s and they are actually quite good. However, move upto the S.Drives if you're after more grip. Seeing as it's your daughter who's driving it though, i really think A.drive R1s will suffice (i mean...she's not going to race it right ?). They can be had for a decent price too. As for Volk wheel copies. http://www.bsawheels.com.au...they're locared in peakhurst i think.

Cant recommend yokhama's enough they rock. Just beaware that the smaller the profile of tyre (eg the bigger the rim the smaller the profile of tyre) the rougher the ride (not as smooth) Hope you made sense of that

Yeah got the wheels and Falken tyres from Tempe tyres we decided on 17" and a lower profile, what about the spare tyre should I worry about this in case she gets a flat?
