middle of Jan is Excellent for me... all the rush of Xmas is over..

Also 4 days is a bit long for me..

3 days would be easier to manage... I.e. Leave Sat morning get home mon night? I do that sort of trip to Taree quite the often...

1 day to get down there... spend arvo fishing/movies/diner/etc then have all day 2 for random sh*t, then day 3 something in the morn and drive home later...

If we go to Taree, I have Family there and can post up a few people... plus i know the area... Old bar beach is 20 mins away... 40 mins to port Maquarie... only 4 hour drive for sydney goe-ers... about 7 hours for QLD'ers...

Can house about 4 ppl at mine... and prob hook up accomodation for a couple more...

Other than that motels are cheap down there...

Ideas??

ok... would early/mid jan be ok with everyone?

taree seems a bit far... and the whole idea of 4 days was so there's only short periods of driving, so we can still safely make it with little/no sleep and hungover, and also it means it doesnt really matter when we leave.

i'm not a big fan of drving for 5-6 hrs straight (it would also mean i'll end up being about 50km behind, cos i dont speed lol)

i donno... keep throwing ideas at me guys, and we'll make a decision by the weekend. :)

Coffs harbour then? about 5 hours drive for us and about the same from syd?

As well as being a nice place...

I say do it in one hit... with a few stops in between... easy...

I do the 7 hour trip to taree every two months... sometimes with no stops at all.. its fine...

even gone bris to syd with no stops...

Happy B'day sammi hope u have a good 1 :P

3 Days sounds good cause it means only have 2 pay for 2 nights sleep. not that there should be doing to much of that.

Thanks sam for the offer to stay at your parents but i think we all should be at the 1 place for bonding (drinking games, socialising etc thats the whole point of it). so mid jan sounds good eh? ill look at a calendar and check out some dates.

You bunch of pansies....

Just take 12 hours to do a 6 hour trip...

Stop off at random places on the way... breaks it up heaps...

Means we can stay at one place for 2 nights... instead of a different place each night... less unpacking and sh*t... more fun...

Make a day of driving down there... have a big night then do some fun sh*t the next day... another big night and make another day of driving on the way home, stopping at anywhere we missed on the first day...

I'd rather do all the driving in one hit, prefer not to stay the night in 1 place & then starting again the next day etc.. All for making rest stops along the way for food / hang out / etc ..

I don't think I've been to Byron before (or at least I can't remember it), so it should be good to see what all the fuss is about..

... and...who needs to stay in a hotel anyways? why not just pack a bunch of tents & pitch em at the beach / caravan park or summat..

ok, so make it a 3 day thing? pass the motion?

and i was thinking about staying in cabins in caravan parks... best of both worlds... relatively cheap, and still have all the stuff u need... i.e. bed and a roof lol, and sometimes even a crappy cook top. what do u guys think?

Spot on...

If you're game to stay at port maquarie (about 6 hours), Lukas's parents own a caravan park... he will be back from Czhec soon so he could prob hook us up a cheap rate.

thats my problem with it lol, remember i dont speed anymore lol, and also... the drive there would be ok i guess, but i'm not sure how hungover we are all going to be for the drive back.....

but if it means cheap rates.... maybe...
whats there to do in port maquarie? what kind of place is it, how big, how many back packers, how many nude beaches... etc etc... lol

so can anyone tell me why we're thinking of going further south to coffs? I see no mention of there being any backpackers there... we should just crash at Byron for the whole weekend ;)

i dont think driver + passenger + subs will be able to fit everything listed above into a fto.
and also, mozzies will eat u alive if your tent isnt perfect.

and as for going past Byron, its because i want the nsw memebers to meet up with us, so its only fair that we meet half way

ok all good points i do like the idea of stayin at the same place for both nite's but in sayin that byron bay is like only a 1hr drive from the gold coast hardly a road trip. so why dont we:
Day
1) drive to either coffs or port macquarrie, get camp site (i aint stayin in no tent but that doesnt stop anyone else from doing so). meet up with any sydney ppl. do the 3 p's. sleep a little.
2) drive to byron get camp site play during the day (fishing, beach games, etc) go to local backpacker bar at nite for more festivities.
3) then the next day just relax till afternoon and then a cruisey 1 or 2 hr drive home depending on where you live.
