modifying head lights

Post by BorepYano »

ok, finally got off my lazy ass to play around with this.

here's a pic:
Image
before anyone asks, yes that is a toilet roll, spent a while looking for something the right size, and this happens to be the perfect size to put the normal indicator mount (from the fog lights) into.

anyways, here's whats planned:

obviously the finall product wont be made of toilet rolls and bog lol.
the face plastic bit will be made with fibreglass, so the toilet roll will be replaced with fibreglass and attatched to the face plate.
bulb change will be from the side, its going to be tight fit though, even with my bitch hands i'm still having trouble getting my hand in there to twist the bulb on and off.
the two holes for the low beam and high beam will be extended forward by about 1cm give or take, and have angel eyes mounted properly inside. (will work out how to make them changable later... so u can replace them when u want a different colour or if it breaks)
thinking about building HIDs into the lights as well (the thingy box and a relay), so it'll be water proof, but i'll probably only do this for myself. otherwise it's too much hassel...

i'm going to build 1 pair of these regardless, for myself. but just putting it out there... would there be any interest in something like this (not with the toilet roll but the discribed final product) from anyone here? and how much would u pay for it on an exchange system?

Is this so that you can get cold air in? Are you doing it to both headlights or just one? Will it play with the aero dynamics?

o_0' u've confused me lol

the plastic cover will go back on, so no change to the aero dynamics of the car.
the toilet roll is there for the indicator, a while ago ppl were talking about trying to build an indicator into the headlights. and they reckon it wasnt goign to work, so i decided to try it myself.

another thing is... this is where it gets kinda crappy. u know how some ftos have the indicators clipped onto the grill for comliance? this will fix that problem (it's all about viewing angles blah blah blah). but the new problem is that the headlight it self is modified... and there's a rule about not supposed to mod headlights at all... bit of a catch 22 really lol.

Looks interesting.

Just a thought, I previously had a idea to make the FTO headlights look like Vantage headlights with the strip of sidelights inside.

Heres a pic -

Never got round to experimenting with it though. Maybe you could give it a go if you're interested.

thats the one!!
lol yeah we were talking about doing that but its too much hassel when i looked into it, but.... now just looking at what i've made up (with bog and a toilet roll)... might be able to just frost that section of the clear plastic cover to make the same effect... i'll look into it more after i get some more stuff i need :)
