Interestingly the 6A12 Twin Turbo uses the same rods, crank etc.. as the FTO... which got me thinking. The only difference is the head gasket and the pistons. Which combined obviously lower the compression.

Forged pistons are dirt cheap in America ($600 a set USD)

You can pick up a turbo kit ($2895 USD)
http://www.sfxperformance.com/parts/TUSMG2501E.htm

Rods ($999)
http://www.importperformanceparts.net/i ... -rods.html

err... so what else do we need, head gasket....

could be worth a couple of grand for someone to experiment.

hmmm guess it was me that said that ;)

hmm ... interesting that your using the 6A13 DOHC TURBO CAMSHAFTS also if they are doing it correctly you will need more than one set of head gaskets, as they should build it up, check the head to piston and valve to piston clearances strip it then build it up again with a new pair of head gaskets.

Im just in the process of doing the same to my 6A13 engine.

Im not sure whats happening there... but i presume they know what they're doing...

Oh and replaced some of the tapets... apparently 12 were pretty bad so he put new ones in the rear bank and moved the good ones to the front bank (so if they go they're easier to replace)

Wondering about power now... over 210kw = sam :D
but still pissed that i know of a laser doing 260kw for AS...

If you put it into perspective, the money that you've spent on your Turbo conversion & forged engine project isn't really that much... Even with 20 or 30k ... there are always going to be people who think that its a ridiculous amount of money to spend & they'd be able to think of things that they'd rather spend the money on i.e. mortgage or whatever..
but considering that I've worked with guys who have spent shitloads of money on their hobbies .. fair enough, they earn A LOT more money than what I do... but still...

One guy I worked with liked spending money on his Home Entertainment setup spent about 20k on DVD player, TV/Projector,speakers, cd players & all that sort of stuff ... not to mention what he spent on other things for his house ...
Another guy whose hobby was cycling has a bike that he paid just under $13k for ... A BICYCLE!
Another spent over 10k on a camera.... I know guys who upgrade their motorbikes every time a new model comes out, even after spending thousands of $$ on customising them to how they want it ..

And I know a guy whose hobby is Flying ... airplanes, helicopters, hanggliding etc... you don't want to know how much he spends on that!

So in reality, if you're going to be keeping your car for a long time, its probably not such a bad way to spend your money... you'll get more enjoyment out of it than other things ... better than buying a computer system every 3 years @ $3000-5000 or a Plasma TV for $4000 that you'll have to upgrade in a couple of years IMO...

Sure you could invest your money & use it to make more money ... but what use is it if you don't get to spend it on things you want once in a while..

Ouch ... So your advice after going through all this would be? Do it properly from the beginning & toughen up the engine internals & running gear etc before starting on boost?

My advice would be to stay NA...

Buy a 180 or riceline if you want to go fast... will be cheaper in the long run...

Quick UPDATE:

TNT advised the engine is still on the truck and will arrive anytime between now and tomorrow lunchtime...

Then spoke to Rick, He is soooo busy  and will try his best to have the engine done by mon/tuesday next week..

Then spoke to RPW about random things... i.e. running in the new engine.
Need to do 700-1000kms... and at least 100-200kms of that up some steep hills.. (hello nebo!)
Doing all this on minimum boost and minimum RPM..
Then needs to go back to have the heads tightened.. and boost wound up to max...

Then left a message for my tuner to call me back...

So far this is my timeline:

Wed 19: Engine arrives at JnR. Starts removing engine
Thurs 20: Finishes removing engine
Fri 21: Starts Putting new engine in
Sat 22: More work installing engine
Sun 23: Sam worries about progress
Mon 24: Finishing engine install
Tue 25: Engine in the car. Tuner goes to JnR to start the engine for the 1st time. Does preliminary tune.
Wed 26: Day off to Run in the new engine. 4 tanks of fuel and 8 hours later its finished. Drop off at tuners
Thurs 27: Tuner does the final tune ready for autosalon
Friday 28: Gets a quick detail in the morning. Goes into Autosalon that afternoon
Sat 29: Autosalon all weekend
Post AS: new exhaust etc...

He has to tune it to run... it will be rough... 5psi and not over 2,000rpm

Then after the 1000kms it will have the heads tightened and get a full service... then it will cop 20+psi up its arse and 8,000rpm for the REAL tune...

As they are such champs to help me out when im in a bind, i'm prob going to get a sticker made and put on the back of my car...

Just to show i appreciate their work...
