Car has no Acceleration

Post by overboostin007 »

Ok was driving back from a 14 hour trip up north. Now whilst driving the car would loose all acceleration and would idle rough. Pulling over and checking all connectors and sensors. Noticing it would have while heavily acclereating. I'm suspecting fuel pump. Probelm isn't as bad on a full tank but the lower it gets the worse it becomes. While driving and loosing acceleration i turned the key off and then started it whilst driving and it would be fine for a while again. Then same old. So i'm guessing the fuel pump is loosing power and when i turn it off then back on it switches the fuel pump on again. Is this possible. I thought maybe a speed sensor but that wouldn't affect the fuel level. But i noticed that mivec would only properly engage when on full tank and no where near as good on a low tank. What do you think. Tried error codes but the light just flashes repeatably, in no order.

drain your tank and clean it out, replace the fuel pump pickup strainer, and the filter. sometimes the fuel pickup gets blocked by crap in the tank, which chokes your engine when its under load.

Has brand new filter fitted. And i'm thinking fuel pump as tank level affects it ie full or more towards empty. Is it a big job getting the fuel pump out?

fuel pump

ok fuel pump is out. Filter on the pump is dirty but the pump is not priming itself when ignition is turned on. Fuel is only being delivered to the engine when start the car. So i am not getting fuel pressure once car is going by the sound of things. Where is the fuel pump relay located?????

Have replaced relay. Pump is fine. Thinkin it has something to do with the alarm. Ie immobiliser (power to fuel pump). This is a tricky one

Ok i have no idea. Pump works fine. Tested power to pump with test light when ignition is in on position (light is very faint). Test when in start position no difference to brightness of test light. Put pump back in key in on position not pumping. Put key in start position and pump works unitl back in on position. Now do you have any ideas"??

perhaps something else on the same relay circuit is interfering with the pump's operation?
