That hurts 8O how did that happen. It looks like a R32 GTsT, so i'm sure this would be all over SDU.

MMm flywheel explosions are no fun.

This happened to an R32 GTR driver at WSID a while back. Guy ended up just buying a new car as the cost of repairing was pretty much the same.

One of my old mans mates lost a toe in a mini when the ring gear let go... almost took his little finger off on the way through as well!

Can it happen to heavy duty clutches too?
The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world's problem.

it was the flywheel... not the clutch...

Dont think the clutch would do that much damage...

Flywheel has a lot more inertia behind it. And can do some real destruction when they explode

Im guessing super high revs.. the pressure causing the flywheel to shatter... Like spinning CDs too fast in a CD player (hence why u dont see much faster than 52x cd players)

Yeah I read about this a few months ago (was linked from a JDM Aus thread).

I don't know much about flywheels (so don't abuse me if you think I'm wrong... I never am :D ) but apparently the cause of this was that the factory flywheel had been lightened by shaving and that this f*cked it's structural integrity... causing it do make the above pretty pictures.

If you have a lightened flywheel, don't bite my head off, go read the thread yourself :)

LOL yes... in so many words.

It just means that your next weakest link is probably the next thing to blow... like a driveshaft! Especially if you start putting slicks on it.

Yeah... i think if i blow some driveshafts, i'll just get some stronger ones made up... As in i'll just wait till they go... Wont have the $$$ for a while...

Going to be interesting to see how cranky this thing is to drive...
