If the CV is really worn you tend to get 'click-click-click-click' when you're on full lock, doing a U turn or similar. I've not heard of CV's thunking during take off...
If you go from reverse to first quickly can you hear the thud? Spose the easy way to see if the mount is gone is to get a mate to look under the bonnet while you half release the clutch quickly a couple of times. Should see the motor moving about heaps.
Its really hard to see if they are f*cked when on car. You need to look out for light coming through cracks in the rubber & the overall shape of the mount. Ie how 'out of round' it is.
Other thud can happen is the solinoids in the trans are on the way out...but u would know that pretty quick with your GB experience I think!
doubt it! that tranny thud im real familiar with, its not coming from the transmission side.
Im guessing more CV, as Im also copping weird clicks and sh*t sometimes with drivers right suspension area.
It's definately not your CV, and I should know! Mines gone and it makes a horrible noise when on full lock (its even now started to make that horrible clunk-clunk-clunk without going into hard lock, just turning corners causes it!!! )
So when exactly do you get this? I get a clunking / rubber graunch like noise when I: brake, turn, set off, and whenever I hit a bump. Would this be the mount, as according to my mechanic one is 'looking a bit sick' so I'm guessing that's it at the moment.

These were my old ones... heaps 'oval shaped'
what does it mean when you have gaping holes above and below the pivot pont
When i read the first post, i thought engine mount as well! Most likely it is, my best guess anyways. Otherwise another mount that's loose for something.
Don't wanna scare you but last thing you can consider would be chassis ? Hope it's not though and highly unlikely too... my fto was the only one i know of that had chassis problems after awhile.
Not necessarily. Some of the mounts arent solid rubber (they are like a mercedes symbol). I have a couple in the shed down the coast that have come out of the cars I have dismantled. They have definitely been manufactured with the holes. I guess it means they arent quite so hard.[/quote]

mine has some holes but looks screwed anyway. Just gonna get some poly ones and fit them...
