How Much for Fibreglass
Ive been asked to deliver a price on the fibreglass bonnet I am looking at selling. Now normally, I can work this stuff out (ring a wrecker and reduce price by 30% etc), but in this case im at a real loss. How much are fibreglass bonnets worth.....
The one I have looks exactly like an original, down to the structural bracing on the underside (including all holes and curves - looks like it was produced from a mould of the real thing). Only difference is it is ALL fibreglass and very light.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hahah... Any bonnet that isnt metal and ADR approved.
Fibreglass or CF doesnt matter... Its because the bonnet is part of the crumple zone and any modifications to that can affect the way a car crumples obviously...
A CF Gear surround should be fine.. There is no way to get defected for it.. No safety issue whatsoever..
And CF is not banned or anything... a lot of supercars have CF parts... But they're Certified / Engineered through crash testing..
Fibreglass is not Legal (at least in qld and NSW) but it would be a lot less visible than my CF bonnet...
I have been booked for a "fibreglass" bonnet, and when i told him it was CF he said it didnt matter..

Oh and dstocks, im not trying to sabotage your sale... I love the lighter bonnet... After all... i have one... And mines only bad cause Cops spot it a mile away... If you had this one on, I'd just keep my original incase you may need it for Rego...
But i think only a tight arse would make u change it.

Bonnet pins are neccesary on 90% of aftermarket Bonnets as they are not 100% identical to the original bonnet they are more prone to flying open when at speed...
Im sure you wouldnt like to go blind at 110km/h down the highway...
And yeah, If it was painted the same colour its very hard to notice... only if you pop it open (You can see the fibreglass underneath i presume)
Low risk... But just warning so no-one has a whinge to dstocks after the sale... More concerned with passing rego..

Lets just say
Lets just say that the wife of the guy compliancing my car picked it up and nearly fell over backwards because she expected it to be an awful lot heavier than it actually was.
Oh and under the hood, the bonnet looks identical to a standard one as well (apart from the underneath of the bonnet skin - which is easy fixed). If you look really carefully at the supports you can tell, but its not easy. Uses a standard bonnet latch as well as the bonnet pins.

The fibreglass bonnets are atleast 50% lighter than the metal ones.
As for legal issues, the POLICE and the PITS lift the bonnet, you can touch anything when they are doing the inspection unless told otherwise.
Ps the big issue if you have a crash especially if the car is written off and they see a cracked bonnet.......guess what, it's voids the insurance.
Don't want to put anyone off buying the bonnet, it's just that it's hard to modify cars without been fined for EVERYTHING.

We were thinking about it for the race car - but unfortunately it would put us in a class we're a long way from being ready for....
As the white/blue FTO is going to be de-rego'd - that side isn't an issue (and we've kept all the stock bits from the car just in case) and neither is insurance as that is also void whilst we are driving on the track
