FTO Torque

Post by FtoSam »

Okay... Im a bit of a newb when it comes to power etc.

I know Power (KW) is what is usually measure and vaires greatly from the flywheel to the wheels..

Torque (nM) is measured at the wheels. But does it vary between fly and wheels.

Whats a stock FTO have in torque?

I get my dyno results this arvo, and i've asked for a torque printout.. so i want to compare against something.

Also torque is the ability to accelerate am i correct?

Re: FTO Torque

Quoted factory specs for the 6A12 MIVEC are 147kw @ 7500rpm, and 200Nm @6500rpm.

The way I understand it torque is a measurement of power under acceleration. Measurement at the engine and the wheels is linked via the gear ratios (i.e. lower gears = higher torque)..

Make sure dyno is done in fourth (1.000 ratio). To me the following graphs would be useful:
- RPM vs power (overlaid with boost)
- RPM vs power (overlaid with a/f ratios)
- RPM vs torque

Thats calulated back to flywheel torque. Actual torque on the dyno was about 1600nm ie 400 x the final drive ratio. Some dynos will do this for you. Mine was about 440 from memory in one tune...i.e. about 1800nm on the dyno atw

Others will give you tractive effort.

Here is a discussion thread we had earlier...follow it through.

Yeah I knew I would get confused as well. :D

I know for DD dynos the operator needs to input the correct parameters otherwise it will spit out nonsense. There was a post on SAU about this as well recently.

I was writing stuff in a post in SAU about the same think about 3 weeks ago. Might have been mine, but then again its a common topic.

Id say u have a diesel...haha

Yeah looks like its comming on hard....then just flat lining peak torque is also at the point where it flatlines then it drops off.

Could mean that the turbo is maxed at 3500rpm which is roughly at thats point. Once u hit max boost it would also do the same if it hits early...as yours is low this might be happening...could mean lots of things.

What is the turbo again? and what psi are u running?

what did the tuner say?

turbo is a Garrett GT-28
Boost is 5-6psi
Tuner has never done an fto and didnt know what to expect from it... other than that he was really busy when i picked it up and i mainly spoke to the chick behind the counter

lol but thats not max power is it? 3500 rpm @ 135kw atw, i thought a turboed fto would have like 170kw atw or sumthing like that anyway :?

plus max power is at 3500 rpm? >_<

I'll take 135kw at 3500! NA FTO probably produces 90KW at that RPM! Im guessing the FTO produces 135kw + only at 7000rpm + so really rarely above 135kw.

sorry let me re write what i wrote, cos i was on the phone before at work typing while i was waitin for the person to come back so wrote it fast.

What i meant to write was - 135kw @ 3500 rpm is good - but is that the max power? like what would be the kw atw at 5500 rpm? u no what im tryin 2 ask.. l

look at the graph seems to hover there. 135kw all the way to redline.

90Kw at 3,500rpm on an NA FTO???
I think your dreamin mate...
I would expect around 50KW.
considering your lucky to get 95kw at 7,500rpm

And yeah my power just levels off at 3,500... not sure why... But It sure as sh*t doest feel like it levels off... Taking it for a good run this arvo (about 800km worth) so i'll get a better feel for it then.

I know, me too... But i have no FPR and restrictive exhaust.
But the point is the power it makes through the entire rev range is awesome! what other cars have 135kw at only 3,500rpm???
It means basically no matter what speed im doing i have bulk power to play with... And this baby spools up in like a second or less.

actually now that i think abt it, 135kw at 3500 is damn good.. mm i would so be interested in seeing the results for a supercharged fto since superchargers are better for short runs.. well yea, thats a good example, shows some great torque seeing how fast u get to 135kw!
