Hi There
Does any know what sort of price you would get for a fto if you were doing a trade in at a mitsubishi dealership?
I have 95 gpx 80 thousands ks, a few dints here and there but Ive been advised not to try and fix anything because its probably not going to make a big difference in price.

Not all the dealership will take private import as trade in, although they are Mitsu dealer.
If they really take you tray, you don't need to fix the dent as they will have a trade price to fix dent which is cheaper then what you pay for !
What I guess, you car for trade in may only worth around 4-6k, it's better to sell it privately !!
Even they told you can get more, they just play around the figures to use the new car margin back into your trade to make you happy !
E.G. New car = $20k, best offer on new car without trade in = $17k, true value of your trade = $4k.
Normally they will tell you $20k - $4k = 16k
They will tell you best price w/ trade in = $20k - 7k = $13k
But if you sell you car privatelly, you can but new car @$17k and may up to $8k for private sale, that means only $9k change over.
Hope this info will help and understand what I mean, I'm working in car dealership !!

All dealers use a stupid guide called "The Glass's Guide" its base on ridiculous whole sales price, that even trade can't find.

It is really depends on the contact of the dealership, if they can find a buyer, you are luckly !! if they can find a buyer happy to pay higher price, you are very luckly !
There is around 90% of new car dealership don't sell private imports as used car because they don't have histroy of the vehicle, and if anything goes wrong, the repair cost can be very expensive, also if the driver have an accident coz of the vehicle, the dealership gets into trouble.
That's why if you have a vehicle ( not private import) and have been reported as repairable total lost, they won't trade in as well or offer you a very very low price !!

Before I sold my FTO, I took it to a car yard to try and get a trade in on a 2006 runout model Mazda6 Luxury Sport. The car was 40K driveaway, with my FTO trade in value at somewhere between 6 and 9K max, dependant on a more thorough inspection. Without trade in, the dealer offered to sell the car at $38500. I ended up buying one privately for significantly less and with the money left over, I'll be spending it on mods.....
