Hey guys , im looking to replace my stereo surround and possible some other area's of my dash ... im starting with stereo coz it looks easy to remove ...
Yea i did .. I found heaps , i was more wondering if there's an abundance of dodgy stuff out there I need to avoid .. like whats in the eBay auction .. or whether its all pretty standard ? ... I noticed there was a group buy going a while ago that was $150 for just the stereo surround , where as this eBay one was $140 for the entire interior trim almost .. no doubt its probably just painted , but still , a good deal ?..
If you don't want to apply stickers, you can get it colour dipped to give it the look of CF / woodgrain / whatever you want.
Look up MODICOAT and AQUADIP. Two most common places in Sydney who can do it for you. Probably looking at about $400 or so to get all your interior pieces dipped.
My advice, dont go the stickers. I did this and was quite disappointed with the result. They dont cost that much and to be honest, you get what you pay for. The effect itself doesnt look too bad, but the fit is crap and there are joins in really obvious places. Save up the extra money and get it done properly. I threw away the stick on ones I bought and got mine dipped at the dashboard centre (URL Bennoz posted above) and the result was fantastic. Just like a new car
But then, there is a set you can get from UAS and a different one from Ebay. I got mine from Ebay. Not sure what the UAS one is like - maybe its better.
Mine curled up at the edges in the hotter weather and there were large gaps between pieces that sat next to each other. Not to mention the fact that the pieces did not go to the edge of the surfaces they were covering. Certainly looked better than stock (at least to start with), but still wasnt good enough for what I was looking for.
There was a chick at the last car show I was at and she had the license plate: I SPIT. Very stylish... ugh. Anyway I figure she needs the following coating for her car.
But I sent mine there from Canberra. Took about 10 days to turn it around and cost me $30 in freight (insured of course), so I thought that was quite good really.
Cost me about 700 (which includes postage), but it depends on how many bits you get dipped. It averaged out at about $35 per part at the time (and it was pretty much a flat price per part irrespective of size when I got it done!)
It does cost more (considerably), but having done both now (stickers and dipping), I think the dipping is definitely worth the extra money.
