Has anyone noticed that the FTO gets really hot during summer time ? The engine runs really hot and heats the cabin up too.
Anyone using a sports thermostat in their car ? I'm thinking about putting one in so the bugger runs a bit cooler and so the cabin temp can be a bit cooler too (hate using air-con...it robs the power ). Is performance a bit better too ?
FTO temp gauge really shouldn't be moving from its sort of 1/3ish position on the gauge... If it is variating a lot depending of the days temp, then I'd be looking at replacing the engine-ecu temp sensor. Not to be mistaken with the sensor that tells the gauge what to do, this units talks to the ecu & tells it what to do depending on water temp. If its shot you'll also find you're getting crap fuel economy & often pinging.... just a thought, dunno if its relevant
My temp gauge, regardless of ambient temp, always reads a bit more than 1/3ish of the gauge. The thermo fans kick in once in awhile and i don't get pinging. Fuel economy is great too so i don't think there's actually anything wrong with the engine/sensors/cooling components at all. Just observed that the thing runs pretty hot compared to other cars i've driven. After a hard run, parts of the bonnet are actually too hot to keep my hand on.
Anyways, spoke to my mechanic...and i might drill some holes into the thermostat so the engine runs a bit cooler. Should improve performance too, at the cost of fuel economy. I'll post back when it's done

LOL careful when doing that thou... it can lead to hot spots & sometimes cracking in the heads if you let too much through.

i'm pretty sure they r supposed to sit at that position, i think by sort of 1/3 position ben meant a little bit less than half, i can always make my car seem like it's running cooler by leaning to the right when i read the temp gauge lol.
as with the car cabin heating up... do u have holes in your firewall? cos that would explain it, or if random bits of heat shielding is lose/falls off, that does it too.
I dirve around without shoes a lot, and i can only slightly feel a bit of heat by the pedals once a while on long drives

There's potential for a thread about anything on FTO Australia
i use to get Pinging when my car 1st got imported in australia...after 3 weeks of driving it...its fine yes! i agree it does get hot and it reads over half way but when the 2nd Fan kicks in it's fine and cools down...but on hot days the car is HOT!!! i don't use the AIR CON because power wise it takes a lot.
though it does ping anymore...well i havent nticed it doing it.

Yup, the temp guage is just slightly under the 1/2 mark. Nope, no holes in the firewall but i don't have any heatshield on it ??? Do other FTOs have a heatshield/insulator material for the firewall ? Hrmm
Yeah Oliver89, air con does rob a bit of power huh. Got to shift quicker as well to maintain a smooth ride as the revs drop faster too when powering the air con =/. I havn't seen my temp gauge get over 1/2 way though, even during sustained high rpm driving.
